Thinking about the jumping puzzles in the raid some of us have planned for Friday, I made the following notes. Posting here in case someone finds them useful.
For me, the tough part of jumping is estimating distances and heights. I've tried to compensate by studying the jump mechanics as best I could. The main tips I was given or found myself are on the list below. Feel free to chime in if you know better than I do.
Have an item that grants extra agility equipped. A year 1 item like the MIDA or Icebreaker is fine. This will make your jumps longer and higher. Also, make sure your "training" specialties (the fifth and seventh columns in your subclass display) are set to maximize "speed" (i.e. agility). I know it's a pain to maximize your inventory and agility before each jumping puzzle (and then reset afterwards), but for me, it's worth it.
Titan: Floating jump. Each of the three jump types has a different max distance and height, so switch to the appropriate one for your circumstances. Press once to jump, a second time to extend the jump. If you know your jump is perfect, you're done. Otherwise, press a third time to cancel the jump. At this point, you are falling. Then a fourth time near the ground to break your fall and position yourself perfectly. Note that if you waited too long for the third press, you may be out of juice, and the fourth press will do nothing. To get maximum height, the first two presses should be as close together as possible.
Warlock: Floating jump, much like the Titan, but all jumps have the same maximum height. Distance and speed profile are different. The four press technique described for the Titan works just as well for the Warlock. Again, to get maximum height, the first two presses should be as close together as possible.
Hunter: Arcing jump. Jump mechanics for Hunter are very different than for Titan and Warlock. Your best bet in most circumstances in the Gunslinger's triple jump, so you will generally be pressing the jump button three times. To get maximum height and distance, you must hold the button in after the second and third press. Also, to get maximum height, you want to wait to make the second and third presses until you are at the top of your arc. Very different from Titan and Warlock.
