Confusion w/New TTK Systems

What do I do with gunsmith guns after maxing them out?

Isn't there supposed to be some way to use old legendary's and exotics to power up new weapons?  What is it?

Is there a process to upgrade Year 1 items to Year 2 status?  Or do I just need to "find" or buy the year 2 version?

Do year 1 versions of items still drop, or is everything you get from here out just the year 2 version?

Thanks!

I have no idea what is going on with the gunsmith.  I deleted the gun once I completed the testing and it wouldn't let me pick them up again, it said the test was complete so I think deletion of the gun is safe.  On Wednesday you can pick up an order package from the gunsmith from the test weapons.  I have one for the Suros scout rifle but no gun yet.  I guess we wait until next Wednesday to pick up the gun.  Sort of a weird way to get one gun.

For year 1 guns, they will not upgrade to year 2.  They are stuck at 170/160 attack.

Testing weapons and completing the tasks are what give you Gunsmith rep. Once "completed", you can just dismantle the gun or keep using it if it's better that what you have. After you reach Rank 1 with the Gunsmith, you can then place an order for a legendary weapon of your choice from what he has available. You pick one of the packages and then you'll have to wait for it to be delivered on Armsday which is every Wednesday (similar to the weekly reset or Xur day).

The old legendary weapons and gear from Year 1 are only 170 light, so they are basically too weak to use for powering-up (technical in-game name is Infuse) our new stuff. You can only use a weapon to infuse another weapon if it's a higher Light level than what you have equipped and you have some Legendary marks.

The only weapons or gear you can "upgrade" to Year 2 status are the select items listed in the Exotic Armor and Weapon kiosks. You'll have to buy them and level them all again from the blueprint. Not every exotic from Year 1 is being brought forward to Year 2 status.

I think the only Year 1 stuff that still drops will be upgraded to Year 2.

Hope this helps.

Great stuff, thanks guys!  Now you've made me think of more:

Faction ranks and gunsmith ranks are separate for each character, right?  It's just the Legendary Marks (?) that are shared?

I assume the Infuse business will become clear/obvious when I get an item for it?

I held up a bunch (for me) of legendary and exotic items that I would have gotten rid of except that I was waiting for TTK.  So, I should just dismantle them now if I'm not using them?

Yes, Legendary marks are now shared across all characters - just like glimmer. Your faction ranks are separate for each character.

The way infuse works is:

You are using a 220 Light AR. A new AR drops and it's at 200 Light, but you like it better than your 220. You will go into the perks menu of the 200 gun and highlight the Infuse icon. The 220 weapon will show up as an option to Infuse (assuming you have the Legendary marks and other necessary items). You infuse the 200 weapon and it will increase the Light, but probably not to 220.

This system allows us to bring along guns we like and keep them leveled-up.

You should be fine to dismantle your old stuff, if you have no plans to use it. I'll be getting rid of most of my old stuff, but probably hanging on to my Raid weapons and Crucible weapons until I can find suitable replacements.

There are some quests that require you to break down some blue or better weapons.  You maaaay want to hang onto those year ones a little longer if you can afford the vault space.

A week into TTK, has this happened to anyone often enough to make it worth holding onto the year one Legendary weapons?  I'm just about ready for a major dismantling session except for a few favorites and raid souvenirs.

I've been reading a bit on Destiny Reddit and it looks like I might want to hold off until I make it to Gunsmith level 2. There appear to indeed be quests that involve dismantling

Excellent, thanks again guys!  I'm poking along behind the curve, but really enjoying TTK when I get to play.

Thanks for the information, Darth.

I'm actually disappointing with the new set-up to earn Legendary Marks. Very limited earning and more grinding.

You can get marks from breaking purple armor down.  3 if its unleveled, 5 if it is.  That helps a ton.

Got a new one:

What's the best way to use Motes of Light now?  I can "use" them one at a time?  I've been afraid of hitting the "x" button, I'm not sure what's going to happen next!

Selecting "use" for your motes is good for helping to level weapons and armor. I don't think it gives you character XP, but I could be wrong.

This allows you to level your gear faster. I've not tried it as I tend to use my motes to by faction rep.

I've done it a couple of times to fast level some higher end gear for the raid and such.  My exotic Light Beyond Nemesis helm was fully leveled in about 30 motes or so.  It does not give character XP so you can't use it for your sub-class, just any armor or weapons that are equipped.
