How to beat Skolas POE 35

So after playing around for a while I think we have finally come up with a way to beat level 35 skolas pretty consistantly. I will share below what we did and what works for us.

Players & Characters:

Mr White (Hunter lvl 34 - Running blade dance for invis)

Royal (Hunter lvl 34 Running blade dance for invis)

Caesar (Warlock lvl 34 (running sunsinger for res)

Before we run out to start the encounter we all make sure our supers are up and that we all have 7 rockets to start each. Im the designated "eye killer" which allows you to damage to skolas for 20 seconds at a time. Weapon setup i run for skolas Fang of ir yut (ascended), found verdict (ascended), and jellyhorn. I use fang because of the arc damage and with the buff of small arms you can kill the ads pretty easily. Found Verdict is for the eye's and or surprise captains.

When we first run out we head to the far right corner, white and royal get up high on the catwalk while I kill the first eye. Once the eye is dead i stay off to the right on the ground as we all shoot gjallarhorn's at him (any rocket will work if you dont have gjallarhorn). As the timer runs out, I make my way across the map to the opposite side where the other eye spawns, BUT before killing it, we kill all of the ads first! ( This is very important), the ads come out when you do a certain amount of damage to skolas, so by killing all the ads after each damage session with skolas it makes moving around the map easier. Once the ads have been killed, I kill the second eye and jump across the map towards white and royal to help shoot Skolas. typically after the second or 3rd eye you break Skolas's bond, which is where you dont have to kill the eyes anymore to do damage to him you can just freely shoot him from that point out.

Once we have broken the bonds Skolas will start a burn on a player which lasts for 30 seconds, after 30 seconds if someone hasnt taken the burn from you, you will die!. What we did was we all stayed together and rotated around the map in a circluar motion exchanging the burn. we would stop at 2 points, the far left corner and the far right corner, we would kill all of the ads, do damage to skolas and rotate rinse and repeat.

Once you get Skolas just under half health he will start Wave one of the mines, this part imo is the hardest part. You have Ads, Skolas, the burn and mines to dismantle. What we did was when the mines started I sent royal and white to the far right side, they could dismantle the mines together invis, i stayed on the opposite side (far left) by myself to dismantle the other mine. I made sure I had my res up just in case I got killed. Also I took the burn as the mines started on purpose, this way if i died with it, i could just self res.

Once we disabled the mines we got back together on the far right and continued doing laps around the map, exchanging the burn, killing ads and doing damage to skolas. When we got Skolas down to 1/4 health we all loaded our heavy ammo synth, we then rocketed him into oblivion, once he gets down to about 1/8th he will start the final wave of mines, keep shooting rockets at him to finish him. royal and white went to dismantle the mines on the right side while i stayed and dismantled the mine far left. with no ads to shoot at you (because they despawn when you kill skolas) it made this part easy.

Tips

-communication is key, as I would kill an eye I would let the team know so they were ready to shoot, and before i would kill the next one i would communicate to make sure the ads were dead by them and that they were ready. Also during the burn phase, you have to let players know when they need to take the burn from you so you dont die.

-incremental damage, you dont have to do tons of damage to him for ads to come out, if you do to much damage to many ads come out and can make it painful. we would basically shoot him till we started seeing ads come out then we would stop.

- where you shoot skolas from is somewhat important, you do not want to be in the middle of the map or on the sides when shooting skolas, why? because the ads come out there and will trap you, with "lightswitch" on you cant take a melee, we used the corners of the map, far left and far right. we would kill some ads, rotate kill more ads, rotate shoot skolas after all the ads were dead, rinse and repeat. we communicated when to shoot skolas together which also helps.

-if a teammate dies, stay with your remaining teammate and run the perimeter of the map, kill ads while doing this till you can revive your teammate(s). by running the perimeter of the map the ads end up running a circle, allowing you to put distance on them.

hope this helps

Good write up.

Sounds very similar to http://destiny.bungie.org/forum/index.php?id=78458 Vids included.

Seems very stressful to me.

Stressful, yes but thanks for the detailed information. A couple of nuggets there might have turned my Wednesday night fail into a win.

It's a longer fight compared to the rest of PoE Boss fights, but not impossible.  Just have to take your time, communicate, and watch what you are doing.  You really need to watch the adds.  They are what will screw you in this.

Skolas is much easier now post burn.  Take down health to the point the taint comes on.  Kill ads, let supers build, wait for heavy synth.  Take down health.  Dismantle mines. Kill ads.  Wait for supers/heavy.  Kill skolas.

It's much better without the mines coming one set after the other.

I still need to take down Skolas. In fact, I've not even had the opportunity to give it a try. If any groups are still doing this and want/need another player, then please let me know.

I can run a 34 character on basically any class needed by the group. I'm not that great with the Hunter, so Titan or Warlock would be preferred, but I'll do whatever is needed at this point.

Skolas escaped my grasp but maybe Darth and NormalGuy found a 3rd and finished after I went to bed.

We came so close while I was there too.

Yeah, we did end up taking him down. Lightswitch is pretty brutal, but overall it's just comes down to practice makes perfect. Running the mines and passing around the poison took some teamwork, but we got things working.

Sorry it didn't work while you were in there DEEP. We can give another shot when you want.

Nice, detailed instructions, Megatron! That pretty much summarizes what we did in my group last week (though it was a hunter who soloed the far mine, and I forget who had the burn at that point). Then again, there was no lightswitch last week!

Thanks to major issues with Windows 10 on my laptop the past week (detail in off topic) my attention has been diverted from what is left to do in Destiny before TTK drops -- killing Skolas in the level 35 POE and helping others get their hard mode raids in.  Hopefully this week time will free up.  I do need to do level 35.  All three of my characters are level 34 and would really appreciate hooking up with a Skolas veteran.
