Nearly everyone I know has spent their etheric light gun upgrades mostly on Vault of Glass guns first, then a few CE guns. This week I did Atheon's Epilog (VoG void auto rifle) and Fang or Ir Yut (CE arc scout). Both are amazing at 365, especially with a burn. I've already upgraded the Fatebringer, Vision of Confluence and Found Verdict. I want to upgrade a Corrective Measure machine gun, Black Hammer solar sniper, Hunger of Crota solar rocket and a Swordbreaker void shotgun.

All of those mentioned here are legendary guns. I've yet to find any in the new DLC that are close to being as good. Now, if you include the Vex Mythoclast and Thorn, it would be hard for me to continue with Destiny given the time/effort spent on acquiring the mentioned guns if they made them obsolete. Plus, what would happen to the VoG and CE raids, if the guns are made obsolete? Not many would grind those raids without the reward of great guns.

A bunch of the House of Wolves guns are pretty good.  The Orbiks-Fel machine gun is very good (and void burn, too), the Efrideet's Spear and Jolder's Hammer are pretty invaluable in Crucible (including your Ash Factory/Radegast's rocket lunahcers), the Crucible shotguns (Matador and Party Crasher) and Felwinter's Lie are all worth ascending if you have sweet rolls on them. (Okay, so you don't have to ascend the Matador and Party Crasher, but, still, the rolls.)

That's not even touching the Osiris weapons, which don't need ascension, but are really damned solid weapons.

The first weapon I ascended was the Vision of Confluence.  After that, it was ascension-on-demand.  The Vision is the best all around gun out there, even including the popular favorite, the Fatebringer, which I just ascended, but haven't used recently.

Fatebrigner and VoC are the only 2 guns I have upgraded not counting extoics. Once I get all 3 characters to 34 I'll start on guns again. Probably going to do Atheon's Epilogue or a Swordbreaker.

People on DBO are starting to blab about the disparity between the have and have-not crowd when it comes to Etheric light. I agree that there is too much difference.

I expect to see that change soon.

Phil, I've heard quite a bit about the Felwinters shotgun. I don't have that one or most of the others you mentioned (except I do have an Ash Factory somewhere). For the crucible, I mostly use either the Vex, Thorn, TLW, or rarely Fatebringer in the primary slot. In the secondary slot I mostly use Found Verdict (or sometimes Praedyths Revenge), and for the heavy slot I mostly use Corrective Measure (or rarely Gjallarhorn). Daughter uses Super Good Advice to good effect.

I've ascended a few pieces of armor - a set of gauntlets for my Warlock that speeds hand cannon reload speed (worth their weight in gold), and a set of VoG Warlock helmet/gauntlets/chest/boots (more for looks and old time's sake).

PoE-34:  for primary I use a 365 Fang for both Fallen and Hive, a 365 VoC for Cabal, and a 365 Atheon's Ep for Vex and/or any void burns. For secondary, I use a 365 Found Verdict shotgun for most while a 331 Black Hammer sniper is used for Knight/Ogre bosses. For heavy, I use a Gjallarhorn for everything. Being a 34 and using these guns made PoE-34 so much easier. It's also important to wear as many pieces of the new Outpost armor as possible to give the most armor/recovery/grenade boost against PoE Hive. If I'm on and not otherwise engaged, I'd be happy to help anyone here with a PoE-32/34.

DEEP, I'm not mentioning this stuff to fan the flames between the haves & havenots, but to let others know what made it easier for me to get through a 34. I/we couldn't do it the first week. Just having one or two of these guns will make it easier, and you probably have alternatives that work for you. When I started HoW,  it seemed like I couldn't kill much of anything in a PoE 32/34. Getting your light level to 34 is the first step in being able to do damage to the enemies, then work on guns to make it more efficient/faster. Do a Nightfall and a PoE 34 for each character each week. You'll get 3 or more etheric lights each week, if you have 3 characters. I've gotten 2 etheric lights from a Nightfall since HoW dropped, and I run 3 characters each week.

Ash Factory, with the right rolls, is the best purple tiered rocket launcher in the game.  I'd love to have one.

Etheric light isn't unreasonably hard to get. Getting to 34 is easy. Run 32 PoE, get armor cores for light level 42 armor from Variks. You only need 3 armor pieces with 42 light, plus one exotic armor, and you're 34. By this point, you could have a complete set of 42 light armor from Variks alone. Once you're 34, 34 PoE isn't that hard. A week or two ago (the one with Gulrot) was so easy that we basically did it with two players on our first try, since our 3rd guy died early in the round and fell through the map geometry so we couldn't revive him. That week was 3 easy etheric lights right there (one per character). I've also gotten two from nightfalls, which are easy.

I don't even have a Gjallarhorn and it's still been pretty easy.

I've seen four people get Etheric Light (EL) during NF with me. None of them were me. Yet to tackle PoE 34.

IB gave me (after much hard work and more losses than wins) my only two EL and at this point, will likely be my source for the next two. I don't plan to run more than one character even though I still have a 31 Hunter. It's just too much Destiny for me.

I'm confident Bungie is going to notice the huge deficit in EL acquisition and do something about it.

I'm not so confident about that.  You get them randomly, you get them planned.  For some, 34s were pretty much handed out the first week, and for others, they're still working on it.  Its part of the whole carrot-dangle.  Wait until The Taken King comes out.  They'll be handing out 34s out like water.  This is the business model.

Even with one character and no Etheric Light from nightfalls, you could have gotten to level 34 by the third week (three armor cores for Variks + one ascended exotic armor) and been getting one EL per week ever since from 34 PoE, which isn't that hard.

Back to The Taken King for a moment...

A few comments from Luke Smith re pricing for the expansion: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-06-22-destiny-the-taken-king-director-defends-40-expansion-price-tag

This guy should not work in PR, to put it mildly.

I had a good chuckle reading that. Seemed like both parties were a little caustic. I think Luke will be off the PR train for awhile. FYI, Luke commented, in another interview, about being quite sick at E3 at some point.

Those emotes better be damn good for who ever pays for them.

Wow. That was bad. Maybe Luke should stick to the Bungie podcast. That was always enjoyable. Or maybe someone should prep him with solid answers beforehand

Which is funny, because back in the day, Luke was the community manager/PR guy/fill in weekly update guy that Deej is now.  I know of some folks that greatly prefer them some Luke over Frankie and definitely Deej.

Running with one or two characters can make leveling up/tackling the higher level stuff a but harder with the current set up.  That's why I have gone to 3 characters.  I was able to get to level 5 with my Titan and Warlock and to level 3 with my Hunter (last day) in IB which gave me 5 etheric lights -- and this from someone who didn't like PvP!  With that and running level 32 POE I was able to get Titan and Warlock to 34 and Hunter to 33 1/2 -- waiting on chest piece to get to 34.  I used the light on armor at first and then to ascend my VOC, Oversoul Edict, and Atheon's Epilog.  Get a character or 2 to 34 then start going into 34 POE with experienced players to get the lights.  It can be a little frustrating and stressful, but after a few runs, it definitely gets more doable.

Now, back to the Taken King.

I'm not too terribly pissed about the pricing. I have it on the xbox one...and I plan on getting it on the PS4. Since I haven't purchased it on PS4 yet, the Taken King collectors is the best way to go for me in that regard.

As for the Xbox one....since I already have the vanilla game and 2 previous expansions.....I'll just get the taken king dlc alone.

I think Bungie will eventually give in and start giving out those emotes or give us a way to unlock them somehow. But right now they want to get you to buy the collectors edition...whether you own the game already or not.

Hell. I may just buy a collectors edition of the Taken King for the xbox one as well.....so my fiance can start a character and play with me.

Bungie will be addressing the content issue of TTK in this week's news update.

My guess is, most people will be satisfied.

DEEP, it sounds like you know something the rest of us do not?

I hope you're right, but I'm taking a wait and see approach. This Destiny diehard is pretty pissed off with Bungie's approach right now.

Update: So Deej says we'll get something better... We'll see on Thursday

Well it's a good thing I don't dance and like to wear tee shirts and jeans.

What I do find interesting is that there are still newer players coming online in Destiny.  My little walkthru video of opening the door solo in VOG has over 3,000 hits and the number keeps climbing -- and I just did this to help someone out.

Yep, shots fired. As of now I'm not buying the TTK, Bungie is really slapping us in the face with the price of the DLC and the attitude of Luke.

Luke's always been sarcastic.  I'm still okay with the DLC price.  I don't need physical trinkets.  I don't even really want dance moves.  Basic Taken King is fine for my needs.
