Ok, video is uploaded.  The quality will improve in about 30-45 minutes or so as YouTube gets the video quality up to high definition, but it can be watched now:

I did run this first part on Hard mode twice on Friday, once with my Titan and once wth my Warlock. The jump is much easier with Titan. I did get my Oversoul, now I just have to get enough Radiant energies to finish leveling it up, so I guess it's back to running this again a few times with the weekly resets.

I hate having to grind for materials, I like how Bungie redesigned HoW weapons to already come with max damage and you just unlock the perks.

FYI, there's a chest in the abyss that's just off to the left of where you first enter. It spawns randomly, so you'll probably have to die and retry a few times to get it. That'll double the amount of radiant energy/shards you get per week. Plus you can dismantle any duplicate Oversoul Edicts for radiant shards/energy. :)

That chest actually rotates thru the 6 rooms in the Abyss.  The easiest way to get the goodies -- 2 radient shards (armor) or 2 radient energies (weapons) is to head toward the first lamp and when you see a path heading left (not far) turn left.  At the end of the path is the first of the six rooms.  If the chest is in the room, a light will be lit over the doorway.  In that case, continue into the room and open the chest.  If the light is not there, the chest is not there and you will need to wipe.  Easiest way is to go back to the landing area and jump off the edge.  Rinse and repeat until you see the light over the door.  Sometimes it takes quite a few attempts to get the chest but it is worth it.  You can do this with each character that is eligible for the raid once a week.  Reset is Tuesday morning.

I built up quite a supplly of radient materials doing this every Tuesday.

Yup, for a while that was item #1 for me on Tuesday - Crota Chest 1 x 3 for radiant materials.

If you run a Hunter Bladedancer and the light isn't on at the first door, you can go invisible (put on Don't Touch Me's) and easily follow the wall to check the second and third doors. Fourth door is a hard left turn just after the third. You can increase your chances of getting materials with fewer attempts by checking 3-4 doors at a time before wiping, which will be simple since by then you will have plenty of Thralls around.

Here's a great Abyss map if you haven't already seen it:

Thanks for posting the 3D map. Looks like there might be other lamp jumps for Achy that would shorten the trip.

Well it looks like the only one worth the trouble is the second lamp, since it lets you avoid 10 others.

The trouble with the other two possible spots (lamps 8 and 12) is that the rocks will be difficult/impossible to get up onto and complete a jump while having 0 weight of darkness on you.

Another shortcut if you can't make the jump from lamp 2 is when you approach the sixth lamp - hard left and walk along the wall, left again at the corner.

Maybe jump down to the 8th lamp after activating the bridge pad (to avoid the baddies), let the bridge build, then jump back up from atop the 8th lamp.... Looks to be a shorter jump than the second lamp.

Interesting thought. There are baddies patrolling in the area around the lamp, but maybe this could work.

You'd have to avoid activating the lamp until the bridge finished building, but then the darkness should lift and you could jump up there without worrying about the lamp at all. As long as you don't get Ogre blasted or swarmed by Thrall, you should be able to make it. Only other issue I can see is the vertical height on this map may not be true to scale throughout.

I'll give it a try and report back.

No need to try. Already jumped down. The bridge stops building.

My first time across the bridge was with you guys several months ago. During that run I accidentally got blown across the map by an exploding lamp after the other 5 team members died at/near the bridge plate. I was at least halfway back to the start when I began again, but the bridge building process completed, weight was lifted and I could run.

Maybe someone needs to die up top for it to work....

Thanks for the map Blam..  I didn't realize there were actually 7 rooms.  I think the chest rotates after 2 spawns, so one may have to wipe 12 or 13 times in the most extreme cases.  It seems that I have had to do that or close to that many wipes at times.  I do try to check several rooms with my Hunter.

Some interesting alernatives seem possible for the full Abyss run, but I will probably stick with the second lamp jump for my Titan.  I may try the left turn at lamp 6 for my Hunter to see if that eliminates the Thralls ahead.  If so, that would make the Hunter trip shorter and safer.  With the built up reserves of radient materials I have now, I don't even bother with running the Warlock thru.  The jump is a real pain in the butt.

I did notice that with the Titan, the Bubble approach works fine meaning there is no need to fire a shot in the Abyss run.  Just have a weapon (Mida Multitool, Icebreaker, etc.) as your equipped weapon.

My pleasure, Achy. Of course there would be 7 rooms, it's Bungie... The turn at 6 won't eliminate Thralls but will let you avoid a bunch of them.

For your Hunter, with Mida and Don't Touch Me's you could actually check every one of the rooms and only go through once for the radiant materials.

Maybe we can get more old people trained enough in Raids to go for these extra weapons.

Let's do it then. Fatebringer only drop in Hard Mode after you defeat the Templar (not sure if it can drop at Atheon).

I've never done a raid, so I'd be all about getting in on Raid 101!

Vacation time for me, so just checking in from the road. Love the 3D abyss map! Will also be looking for more raid runs when I'm back in front of my Xbox in July.

Fatebringer drops after defeating Templar on hard mode. To avoid the conflux fight, just get a Templar hard checkpoint from the LFG web site, put it on all three characters, then run each one through the Templar fight. FB drops often enough that it should happen within a week or two. Some in our regular raid group have multiples. I have just one.

Have a good relic wielder on the same level as the Templar, while everyone else stays up and across shooting oracles, Hobs and rocketing Templar. A Crota tracking rocket, Icebreaker and a good scout will do fine. This is a good spot for a shoot to loot gun too. Punch/shoot your way out of containment before using the rocket. There are no team revives. FB was the first gun I ascended. The second was the Vision of Confluence.

I haven't played VoG since Bungie upgraded the VoG to level 30 for normal & 33 for hard....

BTW- I helped a random team open the gate yesterday at the beginning of the VoG raid. As a 34 it was fairly easy when using void guns.
