Pretty exciting.

I hope the End Content is not so unattainable like PoE 34-35 or Trials (Lighthouse) or Hard Mode Raids. I'm starting to sour on that aspect of Destiny.

We also have the Pre-"The Taken King" Sony exclusives to look forward to, which should activate this fall.

The fact they are continuing the year of exclusive content trend is why I won't be picking this up.  30 days...maybe even 90 days I could possibly understand, but a whole year is just stupid.

I haven't seen any confirmation on when the PS4 exclusives will be dropping for Xbox. I mean, it makes sense it will drop with the new expansion, but I've seen on mention. Granted, I'm not really scouring websites for this info, so it could already be confirmed.

I read that someone read it. 2014 Sony content unlocks with TTK.

I'm not going to get into the semantics of that train of thought.

There are solutions to the problem. Some have already been implemented, like softening up the end bosses.

Other solutions like, longer and slower methods to get end game content and microtransactions for handi-caps like weapon/armour perks. Re-purposing playspace geometry like they did in the Vault of Glass.

Handicaps are sort of available now through the use of experienced friends. Not everyone has those friends and some people get excluded simply because of skill.

Yep.  That's true.  It takes time and effort to finish this content.  I can totally see why someone wouldn't want to bang into the wall for a few hours and not help a party of people that are doomed to not finish something.

Looks great but $40 for just the DLC, or $80 for the full game and all 3 DLC's really has me ticked off!!! As of right now I'm not buying it. When it drops I'll just finish up other games until Battlefront comes out.

It's actually $60 for the full game with the 3 DLC's if you don't want all the extra stuff in the collector's addition.

I'm personally fine with it.  I'd imagine by that point the sales on the 2 DLC's and the base game would be almost non-existent.  The base game itself has already been discounted and can be picked up pretty cheap, you could probably get it new at $20-30 or less if you want it on disk used.  if any new players are going to pick it up now with the Taken King in September, and wanted to get the 2 DLC's, forking out $20 for the game, $40 dor DLC 1 and 2 (which will slowly become obsolete) and $40 for the Taken King would probably be a turnoff for a new player getting into the game at $100 or more a year after release.  They are essentially giving the orignal game for free and discounting the first 2 DLC's to $20 with purchase of the Taken King,  This will bolster the player base a bit to help with attrition.  A lot of people are having a hard time assigning value to the fact that you have played the game for a year already , whereas new players will have limited play time before Destiny 2 comes out or another game (Halo 5 hopefully) drops it off your play roster.  But I already got the base game free when I bought the Xbone.  Besides it will probably entice my neighbour to move to the Xbone and get the game and DLC's in September.  He's currently on the 360 with just the base game.

I will be getting TTK but won't preorder it for a while. NO WAY will I buy the $80 version.

Hopefully Bungie/Activision will come to their senses about this stupid pricing scheme and make the extras available to us loyal players without having to repurchase the whole game.

I don't figure to be needing an exotic class item for extra XP anyway, just run nightfall. Give me my extra grenade, heavy ammo, fast revives, invis on melee, etc perks from exotic armor any time.

$40 gives you the Taken King DLC. If you already own the other two expansions you will also get an emblem, sparrow, shader and "more".

$80 version gets you a copy of Destiny, all 3 DLCs, 3 exotic class items with XP bonus, 3 shaders, and 3 class specific emotes (e.g. dancing/bowing etc).

We should be able to get the class items, shaders, and emotes without having to repurchase the game.

Agreed, that is horseshit!  It does look awesome thought excited to hammer with the titan and electrocute with the warlock.

Initially was fired up for the hunter bow until I read it was to slow down enemies not sure how that is going to be.

I thought after a year us red headed step kids on xbox were going to get hawkmoon and other favored gifts to the PS kid.

http://www.destinythegame.com/taken-king/wheretobuy

$40 The Taken King gets the Taken King dlc.  Any year one players get a sparrow, shader, emblem and more.  (No one knows yet what the "and more" is.)

$60 Legendary gets the base game, House of Wolves, The Dark Below, and the Taken King.

$80 Collector's gets same as Legendary edition, plus 3 shaders, 3 emotes (dance moves), and 3 exotic class items with XP bonuses plus a bunch of other physical collector's stuff like a Strange Coin replica.

Speculation is the "and more" for year one players could include the class items, emotes and shaders from the collector's edition or other extras.

Not sure what the digital download option means.  Does it mean If I, as a disk player, get the digital download of The Taken King I don't need the disk copy of destiny to play it.  Cause that would be great.

Sort on board with this but I'm already paying for content that only the best PvP players get via Trials/Lighthouse. I'm more cranky about that issue because I can at least expect to play the Sony exclusives a year later while 9-0 in Trials is a real barrier.

The 2014 stuff is almost here and I'm looking foward to it. I don't feel great that I had to wait a year but it has proven to be doable.

The only remedy it to not buy games with exclusive content and complain frequently and bitterly

I would have preferred TTK to be cheaper, but it also looks like a much bigger expansion to Destiny. New subclasses (which is huge), new areas (finally) and a new raid that Bungie has stated is their biggest yet.

Who are we kidding though, people will eat up this DLC in all of its offerings. Until Destiny gets some real competition, which will come with games like Halo 5, Star Wars Battlefront, The Division, etc., Activision and Bungie will continue to rake in the money.

Herding cats.... the only way to get Activision/Bungie to stop with the BS exclusivity is for an effective boycott to emerge. I don't see that happening - too many cats. Regardless, exclusivity will cause long-term damage to the loyalty xbox owners have shown to Bungie? Will it matter? Not without a boycott.

If Activision really wanted to sell more PS4 systems, they should make porting Destiny xbox profiles possible and easy.

I really appreciate the tactical variety in Destiny missions. No two playthroughs feel quite the same. If you've leveled, changed to a different class, or have changed your loadout in between, that goes double. I'm not quite sure how the magic happens, but solid physics and AI and highly detailed level geometry have something to do with it. And an ungodly amount of testing and tweaking. I'm frankly a bit in awe of Bungie's accomplishment in this product. So I'll cheerfully pony up the $40 for the expansion.

I heard that they're not planning on letting you ascend older weapons any more. Not sure if this is true, but if it is, it's a really shitty move.

It punishes people who were a little late to the party. I got the game a little late and got involved in social groups only recently, so I'm just now starting to get a few raid weapons. I got a Fatebringer last week and it's super fun to use, but apparently it'll be useless in 2-3 months.

It kills any incentive to play between now and TTK. Why should I grind for Vision of Confluence, Hunger of Crota, and Fang of Ir Yut when they're going to be useless not long after I get them?

It just seems lazy on the part of the developer. It's like they can't think of any new ideas that are compelling enough for me to choose the new guns over my old ones, so the easiest way to make the new guns relevant is to make my old ones useless. They could let you use all your weapons and just give the new gear special perks for the new end-game content (kind of like Oracle Disruptor or something) to make it worthwhile.

This has really soured me on the whole game. Half the fun for me is working toward my ideal gear setup. I still want a Gjallarhorn, Thorn, Word of Crota, Vex, Fang, Vision of Confluence, etc. Now I feel like as soon as I get close to finally getting some sweet gear, it's all going to be snatched away so they can force me to grind for new guns (which will undoubtedly be made obsolete in another few months...).

I almost think that Bungie should have had the old weapons go "bad" and mass deleted them or something.  They clearly want you to make hard choices and to not carry the older things.  Bet you that in Year 2, andthing that doesn't have a Roman numeral by it won't be able to progress.

If Bungie built Destiny properly, there wouldn't be any need to decommision old weapons. Each weapon should exist as an object with attributes in a data base. Simply push out changed attributes when a player logs in.

I doubt they did that though.

I would hold off on judging the weapon progression into TTK.  Bungie learned a lesson from TDB where old legendaries got left behind. and they made up for it in HoW.  But we don't know what iteration new legendary weapons will take with the expansion at this point.  Speculation about being able to infuse new legendaries with different elements and different perks might make up for the lose of old raid weapons.

I imagine there will be a way to ascend the exotics since they are much more rare.

I haven't heard/read anything, outside of the above post, saying you will not be able further ascend older weapons. The way they worded the Ascend bubble, raise to highest level available in Year 1; it is not definitive whether that is it's highest level or not. My guess, we will be able to level them at some point. Whether with the Taken King or after some other DLC, I am not sure. But hell, there may be plenty of newer weapons that will make me forget all the ones I have now.

I personally don't have an issue with old guns/armor being useless anymore. How many common guns are you carying? Hopefuly none unless your new. It's a good idea to have the old guns become useless because people get attached to them and they will never try out any of the new guns. Oh I already have a Fatebringer, I don't need Her Mercy and just sharding it. It's this way with just about any game same applies to racing, you start with a shitty Honda and work your way up to a McLaren. Sure you might keep the Honda, but most of your racing will be done in the McLaren. Happens in other shooters as well, You start with your fist and work your way up to a BFG. It's what keeps you moving in the game instead of just stopping.

If we could of all just upgraded our armor and guns when TDB dropped how many would of ran Crota? I know I wouldn't of, first few times we couldn't even make it past the abyss let alone kill Crota without cheesing him with the LAN cable disconnect. But we kept doing it to get the better gear. I think THW is a step back, all new gear should be able to be leveled up to max without using an Etheric light, that should be there for the older gear. They just keep watering down the game more and more for the people who don't want to put the time into the game. I can't remember the last time I had to farm for any materials. I have so many I'm just throwing them away now, and before that I just bought it. They are trying to speed level people to much, I met a guy last night who has only been playing the game few about a month and is already level 34, and that was only because he was dragged through the level 32 PoE for armor cores since that's all he had one. Guy had no idea how to run a nightfall or the raid but he's maxed level already. Come on Bungie!!!!!

Ok rant over.

I don't see how Bungie could possbily entertain the idea of letting us continue to ascend our weapons and gear. Yeah, people will bitch and moan, but they'll do it while grinding for new weapons and gear - just like we've been doing for almost a year.

When you play a RPG, for the most part, you will eventually be forced to give up favorite weapons as they become obsolete due to game updates. Otherwise, we'd all just keep using the same stuff over and over.

The easiest way to force us into new content is by leaving "year one" weapons at 365 and making TTK weapons 400 (as an example). A vicious cycle of grinding, but that's what these types of games are when you get down to looking at how and why you play.

Granted, all of this may not happen with TTK, but it will happen eventually, it has to happen for Destiny to be able to move forward.

I don't agree that forced obsolescence is the only way to get people interested in new guns. Black Hammer is a remarkable enough design mechanic that I'd work my ass off to get one even if I already had all the original guns at 331. It's completely different than Ice Breaker in terms of which situations it shines in. Forced obsolescece only shows that they can't think of anymore good weapon design mechanics, so they take the easy way by just effectively downgrading the damage number of the old guns.

Comparing generic HoW legendaries like Her Mercy to raid weapons like Fatebringer is apples and oranges. A better comparison would be Her Mercy to another generic legendary like The Devil You Don't. Fatebringer should be compared to some kick ass gun that drops in 35 PoE. I they can't think of any new design mechanics to make Her Mercy worth using over The Devil You Don't other than simply typing in a higher damage number, then what's the point? You're basically grinding out tons of hours to get a gun that is going to be practically the same as the one you had once it's leveled up to scale to the new damage levels of the enemies. In other words, if it's not different in other ways besides the damage number, Bungie isn't doing their jobs; if it is different in other ways, then it's not redundant with the old gun and both have a place.

I agree that having the new HoW guns default to 365 and making you work more for etheric light to level up old guns would have been better. Make etheric light something that's as hard to get as the new equivalent to Fatebringer is (so that a 365 Fatebringer is as hard to get as whatever cool new hand cannon drops from 35 PoE). That would have been better and retained more of the distinction between hard-to-get awesome guns and more common generic legendaries.

Reforging was a pretty good idea for making new generic legendaries special. I spent 20,000 glimmer to get a One/one Synesthete with Firefly, Rodeo, and Armor piercing rounds (a fun combo). I use this gun as well as my old Another NITC because they each have a different purpose.
