Final Round

Was reading in the Destiny forums last week about how the Timmies really didn't like sniper rifles with the attribute "Final Round", where the last round in the mag deals bonus damage. They thought it was too powerful for use in the Crucible.

I'm not a big Crucible player, but my curiosity was peaked. I hadn't kept any sniper rifles just because of that perk, but was glad I had one - a FWC "The Chosen" arc sniper.  I kept it primarily for arc burn Nightfalls, but I was curious how much the final round added to the damage. So... I tested it and compared the results to other popular sniper rifles.

I used the Earth mission "Fist of Crota" and head shots on Omnigul to test the critical hit numbers. The following numbers reflect a dozen or so head shots per rifle.

The Chosen arc sniper: 2016 with the first rounds out of the magazine and with the final round producing 2688, a 33% increase with the final round.

Icebreaker: No Final Round perk, but it registered up to 3308 criticals.

Patience & Time: No Final Round perk, but it registered 2772 criticals.

Black Hammer: No Final Round perk, but it registered 3414 criticals.

I know that guns are normalized for archetype in the Crucible, meaning they all produce about the same critical hit numbers. If so, a final round with 33% bonus damage could be important.

Other guns in the game also have the Final Round option, like some shotguns (i.e. Invective, Swordbreaker) and some hand cannons (i.e. Thorn).

So what your saying is they are just a bunch of whiney bitches and looking to blame a perk for their dying?

Was it that obvious? ;)

On other news... the 1.1.2 update also tweaked some weapons. For example, you lose ammo from the Icebreaker if you die, and if you use the Icebreaker to make ammo for another sniper, you only get 6 or 8 rounds not 12 as before.

Yeah I was so happy when they fixed that issue with Icebreaker, just for them to break it again. Seems to take longer to regen ammo as well.

Making ammo in CE, using the Icebreaker, may also have been tweaked. Don't know for sure. I tried it once last night in CE normal and it didn't work. The trick is to run your primary and heavy out of ammo before summoning Crota. Switch to your Icebreaker and use it to kill the Acolytes and Knights when the windows drop. Always before, there would be 15-20 bricks each of primary, special and heavy ammo ammo laying everywhere once the dust cleared. Then, switch back to your choice in weapons (i.e. equip the Gjallar, Black Hammer and your choice in primary), and then scoop up the ammo. After doing this, you'd have enough heavy to do whatever you need to do no matter how many swords it took to get Crota. I used this method to get around the annoying 5 minute cool-down for ammo synthesis and to be able to shoot lotsa rockets (help take down the Sword Bearer, shoot Crota and eliminate cursed Thrall, boomers and Ogres - if need be).

Tried this last night in one of the raids we completed, and it didn't work. Don't know if this is a change or not.

I tried it yesterday and it did work in that area. Not a lot dropped but I wasn't hitting much either.

Funnily enough, it's something I don't usually bother with but this time, I just happened to be low on ammo.
