Spoiled

Been on the pc lately and I have to say it is really hard to think about firing up Forza.  I have become completely spoiled with iRacing, rFactor2 and F1 2011 pc edition. I thought the Fanatec CSR was awesome before, it freaking rocks now.  Makes the Forza FFB feel like crap.

Although with iRacing I am seeing truely how sucky  I am right now at racing lol.  I am seeing improvements though as I get more seat time.  Dropped my times down on Lime Rock from 1:10 to 1:01.

I hear ya my xbox live expires in a few days and i highly doubt ill renew it, the consoles just cant compete with the pcs power and realism in racing sims or anything really lol. Keep practicising  and your driving will come and when it does it will be very rewarding, check the guys out at Gone Broke Racing if you havent already, alot of info, help and organized races there.  What really got me was the FREE modding available to enhance them.  theres a few driving instructional vids on this forum that are very helpfull and give good tips, another good site for info is insidesimracing.com

cheers

With iRacing you start off with access to just a few cars and tracks.  I like road racing and on that side of the house you are in the Mazda Miata.  Just a warning though it can be frustrating at first due to in the begging rooms you get a lot of idiots.  Once you move up though I have found the racing very very exciting.  They have some videos on their site after you signup that I highly recommend watching.

Also with iracing its all about seat time.  I have ran Lime Rock so much now that I know when to expect the weight shift of the car heading into the turns.

I'll have to head over to GBR as I have rfactor 1 installed and am having a hell of a time getting the FFB setup with my CSR wheel.  I also purchased rFactor 2 and am really enjoying that sim.  The FFB feels great and they really streamlined the interface.

In rFactor 1 if you invert the FFB settings for the Fanatec/Logitech wheels.  So if you want 80% you actually set it for -80%.  I have seen this pretty much universally for all the mods I have installed for rFactor.

Hope that helps.

iRacing is probably the most realistic in terms of entire race career scope.  You have to qualify to move up the ranks.  I know a lot of guys that really enjoy it, though the way the safety rating works, half the time you're afraid to race someone for fear of the slightest contact or dropping a tire off.  Another thing to think about...iRacing can get expensive, very expensive.  There is the monthly fee (they do offer discounted rates when you sign up for 3mo or a year) + each new car or track is usually around $10-15 each.  I know several guys that have spent north of $200 on just tracks and cars.  To rich for my blood, but if the expense doesn't scare you off, it's an excellent sim.

I'm not that familiar with LFS, but IIRC it's an older sim, much like rFactor.  I know there is a decent following in Europe.....not so much so on this side of the pond.

Ultimately, I would recommend going where more of you're buddies are racing.  You'll enjoy the time you spend racing w/ your cronies more, even if it's an older sim, so don't let the age of the sim be the ultimate decision maker.  rFactor is 6-7 years old, but with all the community mods (free), all my racing buddies are here and the fact it's no slouch in the physics department keeps me more than content.  Just my $.02.

Also don't be afraid to look at some of Simbin's offerings.  The RACE 07 series along w/ GTR2 & GTR Evolution still have a lot of support.

The gang here is why I doubt I'll ever completely leave.  I love racing w/ the Sunday EUSL gang.  Sometimes it's nice to just kick back, pick up a controller (and a couple drinks wink) for some casual racing in the evenings w/ Pickle & Jones (or harassing J on the weekends).  Yes FM4 may not be at the top of my list, but it still brings lots of entertainment value w/ the crew here.  And I try to wiggle a little GT5 & Dirt3 in between too.

Best of luck in your search.  cool

The most fun I have on PC is racing Rf1 with the GBR guys, they are so organized and have the Sim well sorted, with LiveRacer to organize qualifying, practice servers and  great drivers and series. Second is iRacing and once again that is with GBR though I have dipped my toe in public races it is as fraught with Timmies as the Forza hoppers in the early stages also as has been said expensive. I have only raced offline with rF2 and pCars.  One I am looking forward to is Assetto Corsa, this looks like it could be the cream of the crop for the next gen, rF2 is languishing with DX9 and that I think will hit it hard, pCars is going to be cross platform and that never seems to go well. But time will tell, there is certainly a lot to look forward to in PC racing.

Kurupt. I have been running your tune lately. Could you gift me you d and c tunes. I have already bought them from your storefront. but would like to have them unlocked. As far as pc racing I find myself spending about 80% of my time on RF1 and Iracing. Thats why I just bought the thrustmaster ts500 the other day. Thanks to Seahawk. Now I will have to build me another cockpit. All I can say is the pc games work great on triple screens. And I never get lag or disconected. I have been having a lot of trouble with forza freezing up on me lately. Maybe a 3 screen glitch, I'm not sure. But very aggravated with center screen freezing up and then finding myself 5000 ft behind everybody. It only happens racing in a private room. I got to say ,If it was'nt for 2o4f and the great bunch of guys here .My xboxes would be in the closet. enough said.      greg
