On Button mapping in Halo Titles

If you want something, there's nothing wrong with asking for it. Many people want button mapping for Halo. Those same people have asked for it before and Bungie/343i have answered before and again.

Frankie responds to yet another request.

I mean, I know you know this, but you realize what button mapping would do to the test parameters of a sandbox game with lots of animation dependencies, right? It would take 100 years to strip out glitches, button combos, errors, etc, etc.

Can somebody explain what he means by "test parameters of a sandbox game with lots of animation dependencies"?  I don't see how it would be difficult.

I barely understand what he is talking about. I am of the opinion it is a safe bet to accept it on face value.

What I do know is that in Halo we find a lot of animation sequences which are enabled by button presses. These sequences are additionally affected by enemy proximity and the combination of combatant elevations and orientations. Animations require time to enable and cancel. Animations not done correctly result in the button glitches of Halo 2 days (bad).

Halo is rich in character animations and I'd rather have them than full button mapping capability.

I know that doesn't answer your question but it is where I stand on the issue.smiley
