Halo REACH Fileshares coming back online

WAYPOINT is now showing a fileshare tab, once you log in. It's not working quite yet, from my experience.

I read a headsup today on NeoGAF from Ellis.

Fileshares have only been accessible from your 360 for quite awhile. Now you can download to your 360 from Waypoint.

Film rendering will not be made available though. That's been known for some time.

I went in this morning and checked it out.  Upload 360 to Waypoint works fine and is pretty quick.  Download from Waypoint to 360 a little clunky and there is no notification message that download is in progress either on the 360 or Waypoint.  Looks like you can only view screen shots on Waypoint.  Did not see a way to download them -- BOO!!  Existing rendered videos cannot be viewed -- file format error -- or downloaded -- server error.  Come on 343 spend a nickel and at least give us the ability to do SOMETHING (besides delete) with these rendered films.

The Waypoint Community Files (File Browser) seems to work if logged into Waypoint or not. The Screenshots have a 'download Hi-Res' option from the pop-up view window.

Is that true? there is no plan for clip rendering?? frown

Waypoint Bulletin

The most noticeable changes will include those features seen exclusively on Bungie.net, such as rendered films and Halo: Reach API keys. Those features are not included in the transition, and we do not have plans to develop similar features at this time.

Looks like you will have to do it the old fashioned way

Hauppauge HD DVR or the ElGato Game Capture HD . The ElGato uses hdmi in so that is (imho) a little nicer.

Thanks DEEP... I'd hoped they would make it easier for amateurs to get creative with video. Or at least offer a fee-service to render. I always thought that community machinima was a positive thing for Halo.

Thanks Lbsutke... I'll look at those. I have an old capture unit, but it's not HD.

Cheers,

Had been looking at the Hauppage PVR -- my Pinnacle DV100 is just prehistoric -- looks like with component cable and optical audio one can get 10801 and dolby but the cabling would be a bit of a pain for my set up.

Just looked at the Elgato.  That one looks sweet!!  In fact it looks like one can put it between the source and the TV HDMI out if the pass thru really works as advertised -- that would make the setup really simple.

Just ordered the Elgato from Amazon.  On sale for 178.99.  Will review it after I receive, set up, and use to capture gameplay vid.

Got the Elgato HD capture device yesterday and reviewed it over in my clan forum.  Thought I would paste in the pertinent info from that thread here:

Ok. I have received and used the Elgato HD capture device.

Pros:

1. It is small and will fit just about anywhere.

2. Supports resolutions up to 1080i with HDMI in from the XBOX and HDMI out to the monitor or TV.

3. Initial test runs resulted in good quality videos.

4. Setup is simple. Make the connections and go to the website to download the software.

5. Capture allows you to view gameplay on TV in high def (or on computer monitor). This is a real plus if you are trying to capture real time game play (Like CE or H2 campaign) when there is no theatre capability although there is a slight lag from monitor to computer.

Cons:

1. It is powered by the usb port, which means nothing will work, including the monitor or TV screen unless usb is plugged into computer and computer is up and running. For me this means moving some cables around when I am not using it.

2. Records in MP4 format in both original and 1080P which take up more space than wmv format. If you don't care about HD quality then converting to .wmv will save a lot of space and make upload much quicker. I noticed SD .wmv video quality was pretty good.

3. Some of the software works in the background and if something goes wrong you have to reboot the computer.

4. The software has little in the way of editting software so effects, voice overs, etc. will require 3rd party software. I haven't gotten to that yet.

5. You lose DOLBY Digital when using this, but the sound is still good in stereo.

Bottom line, though is even with the cons, I would recommend this, especially for someone with an HDMI set up. The only other devices out there that I know of that will do HD quality capture are the Hauppage PVR which requires component video cables and optical digital audio, and Black Magic devices which require computing platforms with major horsepower which most peeps don't have.

Several examples are shown below. The first clip was done with a Pinnacle DV100 capture device (why I started looking around). The video is laggy and a little blurry. The second clip was done with the Elgato in HD. Absolutely no blur or lagging. Set to the highest quality and full screen to watch to really see the difference.

BTW they illustrate something interesting. If you hit the melee button (B for me) right after starting an assasination, the assasination will finish quickly, thus reducing the time for a possible yoink.

Finally a third film showing my MYTHIC campaign run on Nightfall in HD with no editting. Again, set to the highest quality and full screen to watch.

Info at www.gamecapture.com

It appears to me that the device is set to capture video from the XBOX (or PS3) only.  I have a home theater setup with several HDMI inputs to my receiver and an HDMI output to my TV.  I was hoping that I could put the device between the receiver's HDMI output and the TV.  That way I could cap video from multiple sources.  Unfortunately that did not work.  Given that I have it setup between the XBOX and the receiver XBOX HDMI input and that works fine.  When I am not using it, I just do a simple recabling to disconnect it from the HDMI "flow."  --  no big deal.
