My Eyes Are Thanking Me
In another thread about various racing wheels, I commented that I was also still using a 27 SD Daewoo TV, to which Mr. Paradox replied...
Dude that SDTV has got to go! Your eyes will thank you, trust me! Doesnt have to be a large display either. I chose a 23" HP LCD that had both HDMI and VGA inputs, and it was on sale at the time. While the CSR wheels are awesome, got to have the fundamentals first! At least youre not using a controller!
Did some shopping and picked up a 32" Insignia LCD that was on sale.
Ho....lee....Shit!
With the SD tv it was difficult to make out what some of the numbers were on split times during a lap and even trying to get the car stats for Forza Tune or MyForza Garage. Less than 5 feet from the screen I'm sitting there going, "Is that a 6 or an 8? Oh wait. I think it's a 9...or maybe a 5?"
Now I can read them clearly from 20 feet away.
Went with the 32 since the wife and I will also use it to watch DVD's and Blu-Rays.
As a bonus the fetching Mrs. Shaggy SoCal has given me her blessing if I still want to get a fanatec wheel. Budget wise it would be CSR XL package at this point.
Either my wife REALLY loves me or she wants something.

Thank you Mr. Paradox for your sage advice. My eyes are thanking me.
Man when I ditched my SD TV at the end of FM3 it was like I bought a brand new game! Best investment ever!
Now I too need to save some sheckles for a Fanatec setup...
Let's hope you upgraded how you connect your xbox to your new HDTV. Your not using the same connection as you did your SD set are you? The yellow, red, white connection I take you were using. You should be using the green, blue, red, white, red component cables or hdmi.
Yep. My XBox doesn't have the HDMI slot so I used the component hookups. Made sure to flip the switch on the cable where it connects to the Xbox, but it was still a bit blurry when I first fired it up. After a minute or two I realised I still needed to change the Xbox's display settings. Bumped it up to 720p. Much better.
So your running an older xbox then. Yea I bet your were almost "holy shit" ing moment when you went from sd to hd once you got it all set.
Congrats on upgrading your setup! Wait till you get that Fanatec wheel--another big step forward. Especially the pedals.
Indeed, the CSR pack is fine, yes I would like a CSR-Elite and CSP pedals but as I have not tried them I am happy with my CSR setup. (though CSP's are first on the upgrade list) You will go through an adjustment as I did. Much of my improvement over the last couple of months is due to getting used to the wheel that arrived a week before joining 2O2E.
Once you have you will never go back
Glad you took my advice and upgraded that display! I had the same kind of moment when I upgraded from SD. Its nice to be able to SEE! hehe...I would suggest trying 1080p if the display supports it. But 720p is certainly better than 480i lol
As far as Fanatec, whatever wheel you get, the CSP's are worth every penny. Its one of those things you have to use them both to compare. Granted I havent tried the newer standard pedals, but the tech is the same. And if you can wait a couple months, the new CSP V2's will be out in June.
I should really open up a retail store with nothing but simracing gear. Everything from PC's to rigs, wheels, software, just anything simracing related. That way people can actually touch and try products before making a decision, especially the way prices are for these products. Sure some people buy a Ferrari without test driving it first, but I'm one of those people that like to experience it to make sure its what I want. It might be better or worse than I expect.
