DLC 2012 CQ, Armored Kill, End game - Ziba, etc Trailers

per battlefieldo:

http://battlefieldo.com/

Finally it looks as though we'll be recieving our first glimpse of new Battlefield 3 content from GDC 2012. DICE's very own General Manager, KM Troedsson has confirmed via twitter that an announcement will be coming today / tomorrow (March 7th). This evening at the same time as the Game Changers presentation, EA / DICE held an exclusive press event showing the mysterious new content. Our guess is it's the new DLC "Close Quarters".

Clues to the New Expansion

Recently we've all been getting hyped around the announcement of the next DLC Expansion pack for Battlefield 3. We're pleased to announce that thanks to an anonymous source, we've got some hints to what the new DLC could look like. First off, the name is claimed to be "Close Quarters" and looks as though will include a whole new set of vehicles and weapons. The name gives the impression that it will be more Infantry based.

>>>>>>>>>>>

BOO!  HISS!   We don't need more freakin' Metro style arena chokepoint maps with a sprinkle of new weapons!

DICE is really pissin' me off with the poor linear COD arena type map designs and horrible spawn points.

what set BF apart from COD was the Huge maps with multiple flank routes everywhere so you weren't channelled like cattle into meat grinder bottlenecks.

This made map re-playability high since games almost never ended up going the same way each time.

The existing crappy maps become boring quick as you always end up fighting around the same bottlenecks.

I really hope the announced DLC is not all "close quarters" arena maps.

UPDATE: ok - they also announced Armored Kill and End Game DLC so maybe those will have worthwile maps but not holding my breath

added link to the Ziba Tower trailer on page 2 of this thread

Agree on the maps. They are way too CoD-ish. I don't like the choke points that a lot of these maps sport. Not to mention Rush is horrible on these maps

Guildford, UK. – March 7, 2012 – The Battlefield™ army is over 12 Million strong and growing every day as Battlefield 3™ and its first expansion, Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand continues to recruit gamers around the world with its dynamic sandbox gameplay and state-of-the-art technology. Today, DICE, an Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) studio, demonstrates its ongoing commitment to fans by unveiling three new themed digital expansion packs* that will enhance the superior Battlefield experience with fresh and innovative gameplay, new modes, unique environments and more ways to wage all-out-war on the battlefield. Powered by the Frostbite™ 2 engine, the next expansion packs are: Battlefield 3: Close Quarters in June, Battlefield 3: Armored Kill in the fall, and Battlefield 3: End Game in the winter.

· Battlefield 3: Close Quarters – In Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, players are dropped into a frantic, infantry-only theatre of war. Frostbite 2 high definition destruction makes the environment come alive as everything from furniture to plaster gets shot to pieces. Players will feel the intensity of the world exploding around them as rubble and broken pieces pile up on the floor, while tight level design and vertical gameplay create a highly competitive environment. Battlefield 3: Close Quarters also introduces new weapons, assignments and unique dog tags to bring back to the base game.

· Battlefield 3: Armored Kill– Following the tight infantry gameplay of Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, DICE will release Battlefield 3: Armored Kill that ups the ante for vehicular mayhem as only Battlefield can do. Featuring new driveable tanks, ATVs, mobile artillery and more, Battlefield 3: Armored Kill also delivers huge battlefields for an all-out vehicle assault, including the biggest map in Battlefield history.

· Battlefield 3: End Game – The fourth expansion pack will ship in the winter but details remain tightly guarded.

· Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand –Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand is available now for download for £11.99 or 1200 Microsoft points and features four of the most beloved Battlefield 2™ maps (Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman, Wake Island and Sharqi Peninsula), all fully re-imagined utilizing the power of the Frostbite 2 engine.

Patrick Bach, Executive Producer, Battlefield 3 said, “Instead of delivering piecemeal map packs, we’re giving players a completely new experience with every themed expansion pack to keep the action fresh. Our expansions are designed to excite our large and active fan base while attracting new recruits with gameplay that is dynamic and unpredictable every time.”

Battlefield 3 is supported by a robust, and completely free social platform called Battlelog that invites players to compete, communicate and play with friends. Gamers track personal stats, compare against other players and join a platoon in an effort to dominate the battlefield. To add to the competitive fervor, a fully integrated rent-a-server program for console players will be available for gamers to play online with friends the way they want to play in either private, public, ranked or unranked matches. For more information about these enhancements and future plans for Battlelog, please visit www.battlefield.com.

Since its launch on Oct. 28th, Battlefield 3 has quickly become the fastest selling title in EA’s 20+ year history selling more than 12 Million units since release. Lauded by game critics worldwide for its compelling single player campaign, intense co-op missions and its addictive and world class multiplayer, Battlefield 3 has won more than 120 awards including IGN.com’s “Best Multiplayer Game of 2011.”

Battlefield 3 is available now in North America and Europe for the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment and PC.

Annouced. Out in June.

Called "closed quarters".

So they are coming out with a map pak about everything you hate about Metro. Bottlenecks, endless rpgs, USAS-12 frags equipped on eevry player.

These guys are simply brilliant. Forget BF3.

Bad Company 3 is our only hope.

I just noticed "CLose Quarters" says Players 2-16  not Players 2-24  so only 8-man teams per side and NO vehicles of course!

also found a GDC convention floor cam video clip:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1njH0g_xxY

I don't know how to embed videos in this version so gotta use the link

if you pause around 30 seconds in, you will see the size of the so-called "map".

to me, it looks like DIce recycled one of the maps from Co-op for this one. :)

I might pass on this map pack as it's just run and gun and getting spawn killed.

Never mind the embed video comment - I figured out if you use the "LINK" button,

that looks like a chain under a green eyeball than that embeds the youtube video in your post.

i've not really a fan of the tight spaced maps.

mostly because i have the worst luck and keep getting hit with the random RPG and blind fired Bitch gun shots.

Then do not play Seine Crossing in Rush mode. Worst map ever in any game ever!

The gift and curse of a big map is spawn raping - it happens way too much when you get on Team Timmy!

I know in the smaller maps its EVEN WORSE with spawn raping!

All I hope is EA/Battlefield doesnt fuk up the next update!  I am sure we won't see any nerf's, like the riding the MAVs crap!

Yeah, probably going to pass on this DLC.  The reason I like the BF series is because of the large scale, vehicle heavy warfare. This isn't BF to me

I will be holding judgement until I get more news regarding maps, game types and new weapons and pricing.

If it is fairly priced and the new weapons are decent to bring into the regular maps then maybe I'll pick it up

here is the Ziba Tower Close quarters DLC trailer with it's run and gun in the gym size map gory:

reminds of the COD4 "Shipment" map or MW2 "Rust".

I understand that Dice is trying to lure COD players, its a money thing!   Nevertheless, I am excited about this DLC also!  I know its far from what us BF fans are used to, but it could be a welcomed change of pace. Some of us will like it and some will not. Thats just how it is......

I just don't see it Fat.

What are we going to play? Conquest? Rush?

And good luck playing hardcore, in such tight spaces team killing will go through the roof.

Lets not forget that everyone and their mother will be using a USAS12 w/ frags.

RPGs up the ying yang. C4 toss here an there.

Game freezing and crashing because of so many explosions.

I just don't see it.

Could be fun for the first 3 days. But then its Back to Karkand.

I just believe Dice will improve this game as time goes on. The dynamics of this game will completely change with the new patch coming in a week or two. It will not even play or feel the same . Hell it took BBC2 almost a year to get everything worked out!   So , I have faith that in the end BF3 will be the tactical shooter to play!

Running around a tiny map with a USAS-12 w/ frag rounds and RPG is considered tactical now? Luckily Ghost Recon comes soon, hopefully they don't butcher that franchise too. You guys have fun with your Battlefield of Duty, so glad I got out when I did.

Frag rounds are clearly an issue. The enjoyment for the smaller maps really depends on wether or not they'll  fix this.

Save for Metro which is badly designed on conquest, the maps are all pretty fun to play, even the smaller ones. Believe me, I'm probably the worst CQB player around and I still enjoy Bazaar, all I need is a path or two to flank the opposition.

Besides small maps allow me to play other classes than engineer.

The main problem on smaller maps is the confusion created on screen by displaying objectives and allies names. This annoys me a lot more than the map size.

I guess there will be Conquest as well as TDM in the Close Quarters DLC, but no Rush:

http://blogs.battlefield.com/2012/03/bringing-battlefield-into-close-qua...

key parts snipped:

"While HD Destruction has a significant impact on how you experience the second-to-second gameplay, we also had to tackle the challenges of bringing our tried and tested game modes to the smaller scale. We understood quickly that Rush, being a large and progressive mode that takes you on a journey from M-COM to M-COM, simply wouldn’t fit physically. So instead, we turned our attention to Conquest. How could we tailor this essential Battlefield game mode to fit our new type of environment?"

"I spoke to my Game Designer Gustav Halling who, like me, has a history of competitive FPS gaming. We remembered Unreal Tournament from way back in 1999. It was the first time the world saw the game mode “Domination”, which is very similar to Conquest. There are some differences though, and the Domination type gameplay usually takes place on smaller maps, much like the ones we were creating.

Inspired by these memories, we used the spawning systems from Battlefield 3 Team Deathmatch and came up with a Conquest mode adapted for smaller spaces. We called it Conquest Domination, and it worked beautifully. In particular, flag defense is suddenly more important, and you get different tactical layers due to the subtle differences the new mode provides. It’s reminiscent of those tactics I practiced to perfection in my e-sports days. Listen for the footsteps, spray the wall, throw your grenade, cover one angle each and constantly communicate. The experience grows with our tried and tested squad play mechanics, and the intensity and pure challenge of trying to dominate these close quarters is something I’m convinced will put even the best squads to the test."

Everyone would like BF3 to  cater to their own playstyle,  its not!  Sorry guys this is the direction this series is going and there is nothing that can be done about it. You can either attempt to embrace the new direction of the series which is clearly meant to compete with COD, or you can continue to complain about every single aspect of the game and just be another negative post within the forums.. Its a whole new game fellas! Change can be good and so can variety...smiley

The reason I, and so many others, love(d) the BF series was because it was all about large-scale, vehicle heavy combat.... that has nothing to do with playstyle.

And yes, there is something that can be done. Give Dice our feedback. If they are smart and (continue to) listen to their fans, maybe they'll get back to making BF, BF.

Gamers don't need more CoD clones. Imrove on your already great game, don't copy another. Pushing away your core fans to bring in new ones isn't very smart

Umm, its just one map pack right? What's the big deal? The next maps are supposed to be huge, so you will have the large scale battles there. You people are old and crusty, change and variety are fine. Don't stress over it.

It's not just the 1 map pack. Several core maps are similar.  And nobody is stressing about it.

Is it really that hard to understand that not everybody enjoys the CQC stuff? Especially in a game known for it's large scale warfare.

And bring that "change and variety" talk to the CoD forum where it's needed smiley

Thanks for telling me where and what I can talk about.  But it sound like the variety is needed here.   It's only a 3 map pack and you're hating on it before even trying it.  That's funny.  Also, some people hate the large scale maps.  I personally think Caspian Border is the suck.  It might be great on the PC, but on the XBox with 12v12 it's not my thing.  But I'm not a "true" BF3 fan so my opinion won't count.

You'll get your large maps in the next pack.  So calm down, the sky is not falling.

Next up is Armored Kill which is to specifically focus on tank combat. In this pack we can all look forward to getting new tanks ATV’s and some mobile artillery. The real attention grabber for this pack is that it will feature the biggest multiplayer maps ever for a Battlefield game.
