Thom... you say the Stranger's rifle works in the crucible? I kept them, but don't use them - they are weak for PvE. Did Bungie tweak the stats for PVP?
I have a fully upgraded Red Death exotic pulse rifle, but don't use it much, and never have in the crucible. Someday maybe. It's a cool gun...
The Stranger's Rifle is the best pvp pulse rifle I have used. It has the highest combination of ROF + Stability I have seen. It has the full auto perk, but I never use it. Since it is only level 16, it would not be good in Iron Banner, but in normal pvp its fantastic. I have Bad Juju, Bad Seed Down and Fair & Square. Bad Juju and Bad Seed down have the same ROF as the SR, but they both kick like mules. Fair and Square has a really low ROF so I dont like it, but if you are a scout rifle fan - this might be right up your alley.
The research I have done on high ROF/Stability Pulse Rifles leads me to this ranking: Pradethys' Timepiece (raid hard mode), The Conduit (FWC reward drop - you cant buy it - has a small clip, but it has a magazine perk), Stranger's Rifle (blue - everyone gets one), Suros JPS 55 (blue drop - closest gun to BR I have found IF you get a stability perk), Bad Seed Down (Vanguard), Bad Juju (Exotic). Sadly, #1 & #2 are both really hard to obtain drops, so the Stranger's Rifle and Suros JPS 55 really are the best options. Bad Seed Down I dont like in pvp, but it is awsome in PVE. Bad Juju just sucks because of the tiny clip, UNLESS you are a pro player that doesnt miss headshots. In the hands of a pro player, I can see it being the best gun in the game.
I dont have Red Death on here because I have never used it. I have been killed by it a lot in pvp, but it has a low ROF and I personally dont prefer that (Strange Suspect, Super Pox VLO, Fair and Square all also fit into this catagory - not saying they are bad - I just dont prefer them). Strange Suspect has the lowest ROF of almost any gun I have ever seen - like shotgun levels. In the right hands, I bet its deadly, but I've never personally used it.
Pulse Rifles are my favorite weapons. No idea why. This is just my (non-pro) opinion on them.
ITEMS TO UPGRADE (1 ES, 7207 Glimmer, Weapon/Armor) -Mask of the Third Man -Young Ahamkara's Spine -The Armamentarium -No Backup Plans -Light beyond Nemsis -Sunbreaks -Suros Regime -Red Death -The last Word -Thorn -IceBreaker -Thunderlord
Picked up the Icebreaker, Light Beyond Nemesis (not my first choice in helm but need to hit a 30 and 31 eventually) and Last Word upgrades.
He's in the Hall of the Guardians before the crucible quatermaster.
I'm happy with the Icebreaker being available to upgrade. I also picked up the upgrade for my Light Beyond Nemesis. I gambled on the Helm engram and got the Saint 14 for Titan.

I've been wanting the Saint 14 Helm for my Titan, maybe I'll roll the dice as well!
I'll update my Icebreaker and Arma chest piece and if I can get the glimmer built back up before he goes upgrade my Warlock helmet.

I did the same in hopes of a better Warlock helm. Ended up with the Glasshouse for my Titan. Not a bad deal, not really a big fan of the Saint 14 I have now. The longer lasting weapons of light and armor of light could be useful on the glasshouse.
From the engrams, I got Achlyophage Symbiote and Mask of the Third Man for my hunter, Apotheosis Veil for my Warlock, and Helm of Innermost Light for my Titan. And I'll probably gamble at least one more time this weekend, because I still want the Knucklehead for my hunter.
I upgraded my Armamentarium. I had only 1 Strang coin this week since last weeks nightfall gave me a drop instead of coins and I just bought the DLC today.

If unable to do both, I prefer the Weekly Heroic to the Nightfall: fixed amount of strange coins guaranteed: 3 for lowest difficulty, 6 for second highest, 9 for highest. With Dark Below, highest difficulty is now 30.
Upgraded 2 pieces of armor yesterday. One for my Titan and one for my Hunter. Whoa, takes a lot of glimmer -- 7,250 each. Gonna be spending a lot of time grinding glimmer today!

At least I can upgrade my Armamentarium.
I don't know about upgrading my Red Death. I don't like that gun much.

I had a lot of motes of light...
I upgraded a spare Armamentarium, Suros and Icebreaker. I gambled with my motes and received a Warlock helmet which is now in the vault.

I don't think it makes sense to upgrade, unless there's a weapon you can't live with. It seems easier and cheaper to do so.

My holiday shopping trip got me an updated Armamentarium, the Glasshouse for my Titan, and Apotheosis Veil (which will probably get dismantled).
