First Time Raiders. Have any advice?
So we're a little behind the times here, but my group finally has everyone leveled up to the necessary minimum with decent to good gear. So we are going to try a raid this week. Not having done it before, we're going in blind, other than a quick walkthrough guide I checked out.
I know many of you are now Raid vets, so if you have any words of wisdom, or know a good strategy for one of the bosses, let me know. It would be much appreciated.
It may sound weird but I've avoided watching a full walkthrough on YouTube or anything. Want it to still have that new car smell if you know what I mean.
I would have all kinds of advice, but if you don't want me to spoil anything I will remain silent on most items. I will say that being the appropriate level makes all the difference in the world. If you are all level 26 you should make it past the templar but not much farther without significant issues. The group I was in tried Atheon with most at level 27 and struggled. We probably could have downed him eventually (we could get him to 50% consistently) but chose to spend a few days levelling to 28.
I will say that if you don't review strategies and mechanics at all it will take you a while. I believe the first group that went through without help from bungie is the one that took forever (16 hours??) to get through the raid.
Have people buy at least 5 of each ammo type before you go.
Dont get frustrated. Its not uncommon for people to wipe 15+ times on a boss - even if they have watched videos.
Pray and sacrifice to the RNG goddess before you go.
As much as you don't want to, watch walk throughs. My group went in as all virgins for the most part and we had to bust out laptops to figure out WTF to do.
The ammo thing is a good one, I always forget to buy those.
And I will say that I did read a strategy walkthrough. Just basic info about the relic things and preferred ways to attack. We may actually take a "guide" with us. Someone who's run it before to give pointers. Maybe I was being a little too optimistic by saying we should go in blind.
Appreciate it guys, thanks!
I really want to give the raid a try, but I keep gettin side tracked doing other random stuff.
Hopefully I'll get a chance to give it a go soon.
I stopped sending you invites to the Raid because you always said no. :) Come join us.
Sorry if I gave you the wrong impression. You always seem to be signing on as I'm about to sign off. Since I have to get up at 5:00 AM for work, I like to try and get in bed at a decent time.
I didn't want to start the Raid and then have to leave in 30 minutes - thus annoying everyone in the group becuase you have to find another person.
I might be up for it tonight if folks are interested. I'm only level 27, so I'm not geared up enough for the Hard raid.
Big, happy to offer any insights or strats that have worked for us. We had this weeks complete run down to about two hours and that was just because of messing around on the very first 'gates' section for way too long. I echo the advice about the ammo and the chests. You will not want to miss those chests and outside of the first one you could miss all the rest. Get a walk through for those since you're missing out on free gear if you don't hit them.
Naw, ignore these guys. By all means, don't watch any guides or walkthroughs or anything like that and go in completely fresh. ANd when ya do, broadcast that shit on twitch and make sure we can hear your party chat.
Finally finished VoG last night. Damn that was tough.
Fun though wasnt it? I wiped on the boss a bunch last night helping some folks. I already had the loot from that run, so I didnt get anything, but it was still fun - even with the wipes.
