BTW, it's 6 (FRIENDS) mandatory for Raids.

So, GTFOrganized bros.

You don't want to miss out on sweet Raids if your lame friends stop playing Destiny. :)

Did Bungie convey what Level your character needs before going into a Raid?

The raids are pretty much for "end game" characters as a way to extend the game and find the best gear. Sounds to me like it will start at level 20 and only get tougher as you continue to level up.

I thought I heard somewhere that it was 20. I could very well be mistaken though.

Video says that end game, which starts at 20, is hopefully where the game really begins for many.  We'll see.  No matchmaking for raids may kill it it quickly.

A lot of these types of games where you have to grind/farm for gear or certain bosses/activities are only available after you've beaten the "campaign", truly do begin at the level cap.

As a Diablo player, the game really didn't start until after I'd reached the level cap and was finally granted access to the best weapons and gear in the game. This is what kept me coming back. For me, when that legendary weapon or armor piece drops after a few hours of gaming makes it all worth the effort. Also, when you party-up with friends to tackle a difficult mission and get rewarded for your efforts, that's really what makes the time spent playing worth the effort.

However, this type of gameplay takes work and if you are expecting immediate gratification, you may be disappointed. The balancing act between making the best gear tough to get, but not so tough it's near impossible to find, can be tricky. You don't want everyone running around with maxed out gear, but you do want it to be reasonable in terms of accessibility. I want to grind for the best stuff, it's what I enjoy.

Also, there's the fact we'll have 3 characters to level. I only leveled a Warlock and Titan in the beta. When you consider leveling 3 characters, this will also give you a fair amount of replayability.

The level cap then grind is what worries me.  Diablo III got traded after a few hours of grinding after the cap.

I am more concerned about any addictive behavior this game might enhance. A boring grind is annoying, an interesting grind can prove life altering. I'm not too concerned but I've already had one wake up call.

I understand everyone's frustration about the decision to not have matchmaking in a post-matchmaking world. I also understand the limitations that this places on the activity's adoption at scale.

That barrier to entry - the requirement that you get a group of people together and venture into something that is going to challenge your ability to work together (first) and your thumbs (second) - is a barrier I was willing to erect to preserve the activity goals.

Bleeding edge hardcore groups will invest some significant amount of time in figuring out the encounters and making their way through the Vault.

I fully expect groups to beat Normal mode in the first week its available.

  • This is intentional, I'd like any group that is motivated and willing to cooperate to make their way through the Raid on Normal. I've talked some about thumbskill challenge vs. investment challenge vs. cooperation challenge in some interviews, and the Normal Raid difficulty prioritizes cooperation challenge and investment challenge.

I expect Hard mode to take longer.
Once your group learns the encounters, you will be able to get through the Raid significantly faster than 3 hours.

However, the first time through, learning everything and arranging your group will take some hard-to-predict amount of time until some clan releases their strategies on YouTube.

The Vault of Glass is in many ways an activity that will build groups from the disparate people who come together to try and make their way through it. It's very much a team-building exercise.

If you're going to stream it this Fall, please feel free to let me know here. I'd love to tune in.

So just put us together in matchmaking and see who ends up sticking together.

Apparently some MMO already do this and plenty of critisim is piled on it. I don't know the details.

I read a few topics talking about player investment and some people want end goals to have the bar set so high, only a few people will succeed. Similar to old-school video games. The other side of that coin are the people who say they paid for it so they should get to experience it all.

I do not think this Raid limitation is cast in stone. I'd bet Bungie makes changes if the number of successful runs is below their expectations.

On this issue, I suggest we try it out.

If I'm going to tackle a raid or some activity that takes teamwork, I don't want to play with random Timmies. Would you really want to leave the success of your mission up to the randoms that you get stuck with in matchmaking? Yeah, you might get 4 good teammates, but one troll could easily ruin the experience.

I really hope there is alot of PVE content in this game. I really am burned out on PVP and FPS multiplayer, I need a game I can enjoy the PVE with for hours at a time in coop with some friends. I also hope it isnt to damn easy and require some skill. If I pay money for this game and all it is is PVP im going to be extremely pissed lol.

They have been saying the raids are not going to be very simple. There is no set route for one, have to find your way through them. Can also change the difficulty if it's to easy.

The problem I have with this, as a veteran of many MMOs, is that no matchmaking will be fine... while the game is popular. Once the population starts to slide, the game is going to end up facing the same problem other MMOs faced: People who have put in time and effort into their clans will not want to bail to join larger clans just to get enough people together to do raids. No matchmaking will be fine for the first few months but later they will absolutely have to put it in, otherwise end game pve will start to fall apart. People will begin complaining about recruiting and problems with clan collaboration and then start asking for matchmaking. Remember one of the major reasons people blasted SW: The Old Republic at launch? No looking for group for Flashpoints and Operations!

I watched this happen in damn near every MMO that was stubborn about matchmaking. I'm not a huge fan of what Blizzard hath wrought with things like Looking for Dungeon and Looking for Raid over in Warcraft but those functions kept people subscribed and kept people playing... and they're pretty much considered standard for games in (or around) the genre.

They say they don't want to put matchmaking in the game because playing with randoms would be too hard for their content. Then they encourage you to join their forums and make posts about joining raids with randoms. So instead of the game just quickly grabbing a few guys to put in your party you get to spend time reading and posting on their forum to try and find people.
