Racing! Halo 4 "Community Forge Race" Aug. 4th

At least I have something to look forward to next week...

(I'm missing many of my old Halo friends and suffering Destiny Beta withdrawls)

The Featured playlist that starts next week (Aug.4) is Community Forge Race. This time around 343 has reached out to the Race Community for submissions and has "stepped-up" to correct issues with the gametype they used last December. Some of the most skilled forgers from Halo Customs and HaloTracks have built and modified some excellent maps to be considered by 343 and their Community Cartographers for this 2-week playlist.

I have submitted 3 of my own, among the 40+ maps that HaloTracks.org collected for review. *Link to my fileshare is below my signature - Download and Recommend!!!

My HaloTracks Gallery - http://www.halotracks.org/forum/gallery/member/23457-kenjamin1-mi/

I participated in some of the review testing and there are some really good maps being given to 343 to decide on. One of their own Community Cartographers (Ducain23) has updated his most downloaded and played map (Star Wars Space Battle) now named Cosmos for the 343 review. I'm hopeful that this playlist can be a welcome bit of FUN here as we near the end of Halo 4's lifespan. See you on the Track!!! - JAMN

I think I have a really early version of that star wars map I copied from you last year.

Right Squatter, it is basically the same map. I test drove it, and I'm not sure all of the changes are improvments, but it is still a fun map and well built. I'm hoping that matchmaking gets some terrain, some roller-coaster, and some double-wide tracks to show off what the skilled Race Map builders have done with forge.

EDIT: It must have been good enough. The Waypoint Bulletin has the Track List - some very good ones!

I did get a note that said Kiwi-Loop was a contender. It's OK, at least there are some really good ones, and a good variety of track styles.

BUMP!!

Spartans! Start your engines! Community Forge Race begins today

After spending an unusual amount of time on these tracks, split-screen and solo. (I was a compatability tester for HaloTracks.org).

I'm going to share some comments and opinions on the maps that were selected. I'll try not to be critical, because they are all tracks that will be fun to race on in matchmaking.

Aug. 2014 - Community Forge Race

Solitude by Bean05
- on Longbow: A very fun track with some tight cornering and some open opportunities for hip-check passing.

(Rung) - Gotterdammerung by NukedLceCream & Tripmine413
- on Ragnarok: An excellent course that takes advantage of the banked terrain and benefits the driver who best anticipates the corners.

Underpass by AlexJ189
- on Ravine: With a starting section that feels like the Grand Prix of Monaco, and a nice jump into a sweet banked turn. This mostly enclosed track will be a playlist favorite.

Collision Fusion by TheRedEyedDevil
- on Forge Island: This is an unexpected choice, there will be mayhem and rookie drivers are going to get lost. But, it is a very fast and smooth skytrack and skilled drivers with the lead should be able to get first place.

(Skid Row) - Scum City by ImSOshiftfaced
- on Erosion: This one takes a twisted path over the best parts of the canvas. One misjudged turn and you will be left behind. Excellent aestetics and overall 'look' makes this map another playlist favorite.

(Confined) - Indoor Race #3 Reverse by TheRedEyedDevil
- on Erosion: All this speed cramped into the griffball court. Some fast sections along with some high-bank drift turns will give experienced drivers the edge here. If you get the lead, you should keep it.

Perfect by TheRedEyedDevil
- on Forge Island: Very fast skytrack, very smooth. If you have the lead by turn two and don't win, then that's your own fault.

Hydro Lane by ImSOshiftfaced
- on Forge Island: This is one of the best looking maps, nice feel and changes in altitude during a lap. I expect that the last S-turn before the start/finish will be a traffic hazard. Fun and fast.

Cosmos by ducain23 - formerly Star Wars Space Battle
- on Impact: The modifications to this are mostly improvements, some of the gravity zone landings may surprise you. Watch yourself at the jump before the split path, left side is easy, right side is trickier. Still a cool skytrack.

Crossbow by runNOKYARDrun
- on Longbow: This is a remarkably fast circuit around this canvas. There is one jump that has a gravity zone pushing you around, but if you can control yourself it is a fun quick lap.

Sorrow by NukedLceCream
- on Vortex: This will quickly become the noobs most hated map. Now, that I've driven it so often, I like it alot. It is a huge advantage to know the path and skill will prevail.
 Got Nixed?

Funky Factory by Masta Hippie
- on Erosion: This will also give the noobs seizures, it is a Funky Forge Funhouse! Some very cool scenery and brilliant use of teleporters. Advantage to drivers who have taken this 'ride' before. Some great shortcuts, but use caution.

Sandstone Slateway by germanicus1994
- on Erosion: Mostly open road with high-wall bordering. The last stretch from exiting the building to the start/finish is very, very fast. I like that. Watch out for the bridge section inside the building. Try to control your speed at the uphill pipe jump, it wrecks everyone at least once.

Ridgecrest by King Edward I
- on Ravine: A beautiful forge construction, short and fast lap. The low berms are sure to confuse the rookie drivers, but this is an excellent track for this playlist. Steady and skilled drivers should dominate.

I hope you can try out some of these community forged maps. The playlist is available until Aug. 17th. Good Luck, see you at CSR 50!! - JAMN

Racing was fun last night.  My roomates saw that I was racing on Halo and were quite taken with the level of detail put into the maps, and the fact that there was even this type of playlist.

One more week of Race in matchmaking. Been having fun, and appreciate the friends that have thrown in a race or two into the party action. Thanks!

@hilskie - awesome to see your "Sig" that was one of the first ones I did here at 2o2p! Still cool looking!

"Trolls and Griefers beware - I shall defeat you!" - JAMN

Race needs to be a permanent playlist, or at least added to Action Sack. Woot! Kenjamin WINS! ...again.
