Replace? Probably not. Another wait and see feature.
I hope John's not going to be replaced by Locke but Wilc0 gave a plausible reason for Halo 5 and for Halo 6:
This would open up the potential for 343i to elaborate on his 'human past', and his willingness to 'be human again'.
What if John's flash clone didn't die a premature death and enlisted in UNSC, and eventually the Spartan IV Program? Either Parangosky or Osman could have told him the truth and he picked a new name? He may want to see the reason he was created.
I'm leaning towards a Halo 2 situation where campaign switches between two different protagonists. Chief and Locke in this case would be used to show two threads of same story being tied together towards the end. Different perspectives on the same events, for example, and how they affect the other main character.
It'll be interesting how it is handled, that's for sure.
I wonder if the Geas the Librarian instilled in John could be cloned. There could be two Forthenchos. The more I think about it, the less inclined I am to rule it out, as Halo always runs in parallels. There were two Didacts, there could be two Chiefs.
The problem with supposition is the fans always come up with waaaaaay cooler scenarious than what we're ever given. It's great to fantasize and feed the imagination, but it leaves this one disappointed in the campaigns.
I wouldn't rule out Halo 5 being largely Locke. I don't trust 343 to make good decisions. But another possibility I brought up over at Halo Archive in a thread discussing Halo 5 maybe being open world, is that Chief runs the linear part of the campaign while Locke goes off on the more open-world side missions. It could be like the Chief missions could be played alone if someone wished, and the Locke ones were addons or a replacement for Spartan Ops or whatever.
On a different subject, Lou, I just read your avatar and it made me lol. I remember you saying something about that.
I like your idea Chaos, like playing a campaign as normal with the Chief, and having an alternate ODST-like game running simultaneously with Locke. Also, I've gotten tons of hate mail over my gamertag. I try to screenshot them all.
I would like "why?" and then I finally noticed. I've never noticed that before, lol.
