Must be related to marketing and advertising.

IGN contacted Steve Downes directly and he said,

"Steve Downes" wrote:
"What I said was: 'I think you're ahead of yourself on H5. I have read some things on line that you can look forward to a H2 anniversary edition maybe this year, but I have no official information one way or the other,'" Downes told us. "I was just mentioning some of the things I had read online about Halo 2. I have no idea if there will be an anniversary edition and didn't mean to leave that impression."

http://ca.ign.com/articles/2014/02/14/halo-5-coming-to-xbox-one-in-2015-says-master-chief-voice-actor

Does this mean no to H2A? Not at all. It just means this wasn't even a rumour source. He was apparently mis-quoted or misunderstood by GameZone.com.

Any Halo fan with half a brain can figure out there is a good chance of H2A this year of all years. Rumours won't change it and only MS can confirm it.

Now there is this by GameZone.
http://www.gamezone.com/news/2014/02/14/update-regarding-the-recent-halo-2-anniversary-and-halo-5-confirmation

They finally published their interview with Steve Downes.
http://www.gamezone.com/originals/2014/02/14/interview-talking-halo-with-the-chief-himself-steve-downes

My personal opinion is that Steve Downes said something that inferred more meaning than he intended. It can be read another way.

Retracting what I said earlier. H2A would almost have to be a stand alone game. Simply because they would have to rework animations for dual weilding and the weapon sandbox. Reach was made to have a very CE feel so it was easy for them to change some settings.

Saying that I have a couple thoughts. One maybe a arcade Halo 2 download, a faithful remake pretty much just like we played it 10 years ago. Second a Halo 2 map pack release. Third there is no Halo 2 anything right now and Halo 5 will release on time (unfinished) and H2A will be released in 2015 which means there is going to be dual weapons in Halo 5. Forth Halo 5 gets delayed til 2015 because they finally figured out that releasing an incomplete game would kill the franchise for good.

Meh.  I'd rather have a fully-fleshed out Halo 5 than putting time, money, and emphasis on going back to Halo 2.

Pretty much same for me.

I wouldn't think 343 would put much effort in a H2 remake. If anything they would send it to a third party.

Yeah, 343i would not put much into H2A. They had little to do with HCEA.

It would be cool if they made the H2A maps compatible with Halo 5 and then they could sell them as a map pack when that came out. Mo' maps is mo' better. Probably not for MM, but they would be fun for customs.

If it's just a graphics buff, I'd not be all that enthused about an H2 remake. HCEA was a disappointment. I was hoping for an engine upgrade - preferrably Reach's - in addition to better graphics. I guess the HR map pack partially made up for it - maybe.

I agree with some here that an H2A (w/maps) would be released some months after H5 - to give the new game a boost as pop begins its decline.

Still concerned about what the X1 will do to the Halo population once H5 releases.

Destiny.... I wonder how the different platforms (PS/X1) will handle multiplayer when playing the same game.

I'm pretty underwhelmed with an H2 remake anyways.  Pull off a handful of those maps for multiplayer if you must.  Unfortunately, folks are going to buy it.

You know who you are.

I'm on the fence for this one. At least I'll be looking with a critical eye.

E3, that's the date to mark.

Xbox Boss: A Halo 2 Remake Would Have to 'Nail' Multiplayer

http://ca.ign.com/articles/2014/03/27/xbox-boss-a-halo-2-remake-would-have-to-nail-multiplayer

It's getting more difficult for me to dismiss Halo 2 Anniversary multiplayer. I do not want an identical Halo 2 multiplayer. I want more.

"Again".  Nail multiplayer again.  Do what you did then, have your *visible ranks, have the two kinds of ranks that you had in Halo 3, and make Halo 2 style maps, and you're at Halo 5.

Send the casual bullshit back to the kids table where it belongs.

*This is the part I'm most flexible with.  Maybe Reach did something good with being in divisions.  I'd like numbers, but I'm sure there are better ways.

but, but, but, my feelers will get hurt if I go extremely negative and I can't kill that guy that's better than me!  Put in 1-shot kill weapons with large hit boxes and minimize skill in the game!

I laughed. Out loud. (P.S. I miss you saving my ass in halo.)

Halo 2's MP wasn't balanced, says the coder for Halo 2.  If it's just Halo 2 with a skin on it, not sure I'd play it much.

If by "wasn't balanced", he means that better players raped less good ones, then yeah.  All my favorite sports are unbalanced too: football, basketball, baseball etc.  That's the way it should be.

No, it's not that.  It's pretty interesting if you have an hour - watch it.

I'd enjoy dual wielding and Elite character models again. That was a big part of Halo 2 multiplayer and I miss it.

I loved Halo 2, so as long as it's good I'll probably pick it up once it drops in price. I still need to pick up Halo anniversary.
