[GT6] Do you use ABS?
[GT6] Do you use ABS?
Using ABS set to 1 makes the cars a whole lot more managable to drive but it also gimps the physics of the car if you didn't know that by now. Setting it to 1 makes the cars behave more like FM4 but still easier to lose your car, but it's almost impossible or impossible to lock up the brakes no matter how hard you mash em. great for tighter online racing in groups.
But setting ABS 0 is the only way to get proper and "unlocked" GT6 physics and tire physics. With ABS or whatever it is 50% of the potential. Not sure if anyone else has noticed this but it's true imo. Also if you want to use ABS 0 then you will want to make sure you use race brakes and set them low to prevent lockup so easily. I've been messing with some cars checking it out and been using like 3 on front and 0 on the rear. Or if you want to experience the ABS 0 try using stock brakes instead of racing to prevent lockups.
I have always set it at 1. I dont even know why TBH must have scared me been a new game and all.
I will have a look at putting the ABS to 0 when im next on see what its like. It may actually helpme as I'm struggling to feel when the brakes are about to lock up but if they cannot that explains it lol
Cheers boss!
How do you personally set your brake balance with race brakes and abs off?
I can't seem to find a setting that doesn't result in me locking em up with very little pedal travel. Id prefer to have it set to lock at around 80% pedal travel.
WIthout race brakes you can't adjust front/back brake pressure. But with stock brakes you don't have the snap oversteer when braking experienced with race brakes on and also touchy lockup. Stock brakes are much harder to slow down your car tho requiring much more pressure.
Race brakes are prone to snap oversteer that is why you have so much higher settings on front instead of the back and also lower both settings as low as you can to prevent lockup so easily. So like 3 or 4 on front and either 1 or 0 on the back.
For me having the ABS set to 0 shuts down my ABS on my pedals so I can't feel the vibration thru the brake telling me that I'm at the edge. ABS 1 I get all the feedback thru the brake pedal when I'm braking hard and the ABS goes off, but lose ability to lockup brakes and it feels like I have stabilty control on the car to some degree.
I'll try 3/0 and see if I can manage, because at abs 1 I can stomp the pedal without fear of lockup.
I really need to find a good tuning guide for gt6, as some of these settings are alien to me after spending so much time in forza

I use ABS set to 1 with race brakes and then use the Brack Balance to control the backend under braking. Personally, I dont have a problem using it on 1 with gt6 however I hated the feel on fm4 with ABS on
Grim, I've checked that out, and while the spreadsheet is good, I like to be able to tune without them, if possible.
I did use it for the F40 and it made that car much better for me, whereas I just couldn't put a tune that worked together for that car. I guess I just need to put some more time in to get a feel for the way gt6 tunes. I really miss forza's telemetry screens and ability to adjust settings on the track
Emezmer - No worries. Just throwing it out there
Same. Its one of the reasons why I use the calc. Was taking me way to long to make adjustments
^This and ABS 1 iv just left it like that from gt5 where it was advised that you keep it at 1.
Going to try it off next time I'm on
I usually set the front to 9 and the rear to 3 or 4 depending on what tire compound and the amount of camber the car has. It helps to modulate pedal pressure. Left foot braking works wonders also especially in the wet or on rally stages.
Fanatec GT2 (FW756) with ClubSport V1 pedals.
I've been using ABS 0 for GT6 right from the start. Found the same things as Brnt - stock brakes I've set brake balance at the high end 8/9/10 depending on the car.
Race brakes I'm down at 1/2/3 levels for brake balance. I've used the little red braking indicator on the HUD to find a position on the ClubSports adjuster knob that gets me close to full braking with acceptable pedal pressure. I then played with the wheel ABS setting to get the pedal vibration (that's currently set at 37).
After all that I then went back into FM4 and adjusted the inside/outside deadzones so that FM4 seems to work OK with the same brake settings - currently have that at 1 inside, 70 outside; before I had adjusted for GT6 I was at 1 inside/38 outside
Elite wheel, clubsport V2 pedals.
Used 0 ABS throughout the life of GT5
1.5 weeks ago switched to 1 ABS in GT6 because I struggled just like you guys.
Few days ago changed my brake settings to what people have suggested (still need to go find the ultimate setting for my style) turned ABS back to 0 and all was fine so staying with 0.
Fanatec Clubsport wheel, with Clubsport V1 pedals, but also Thrustmaster T500RS wheel and pedals, with Basherboards mod (lets just say I am having trouble making up my mind as to which wheel to use
)
Anyway, I generally use ABS 0, but with race brakes, the cars tend to lock up easily. So, when the car has race brakes, I go with ABS 1. I should try adjusting the brake pressure on the race brakes and going back to ABS 0.
I tried abs 0, brake bias at 0/0 with race brakes, and they still lock up after an inch or so of travel. Maybe it's a g27 glitch?
In the end it doesn't bother me if I have to put abs to 1, but if someone were to force abs off for a series, I wouldn't be able to participate
There's a bar on the bottom left of centre screen that shows you the force that you're applying with the brake pedal, this should help you determine if your pedals are at fault or you have something set up in the game incorrectly.
I think ultimately I’ll go without ABS simply because I find it more immersive and fun.
Having spewed my big mouth about how fast I can run around the London track, last night I figured I best determine what makes me faster. Ultimately I was faster with ABS set to 1 but it was very very close between the two and to be fair once I decided ABS of 1 is what I’ll use (for tonight’s qualy session only) that is when I put in some serious testing so not surprising my lap times dropped even further after comparing apples to apples.
Two things stood out to me..
1) Like brnt suggested it just seems like I lose all kinds of subtle feedback when ABS is set to 1 and that’s not why I bought an expensive wheel . Near impossible to lock the wheels up and that’s when things get exciting no?
Could have been my imagination but I truly believed the ABS helped me a lot with the vicious turn 1 hairpin at London (essentially full braking) but I swear it hindered me in 2 other turns where I’m just trying to touch the brake to scrub off some speed to enter the turn…that felt much better with no ABS.
ABS 0 for all cars, brake bias usually 6 front / 5 rear, or 6 front / 4 rear although some cars require different bias, and don't forget to adjust the braking force in the diff if you have fitted a race differential.
Race brakes take around 1 lap to heat up, then you can apply a lot more pressure without them locking up as easily. Also don't confuse the sound of the tires scrubbing as opposed to locking up.
Iv now gone ABS 0 on all cars
I've seen the brake bar on screen, that's how I can confirm that 1 inch of pedal travel, or less than 25‰ of the overall pedal travel, is when the brakes are fully locked. I find that completely unrealistic, and unmanageable in a racing environment.
While I'm not a fan of abs 1, seeing that I can mash the pedal to the floor without lockup, at least I can modulate pressure, and going by the meter on screen, the full application of brakes arrives at a much more realistic amount of pedal travel.
