Wheel woes and opportunities

So, I've just had to send back my TX wheel for a second time. I got so excited about my wheel as it worked great for a week, I even ordered the GTE wheel add on.... and boom... done.

I'm totally dejected, but out of all this there is still opportunity. More Forza4, perhaps some GT6, and a step into some PC sim racing, which I had on my list of things to try out.

So I'm looking for a wheel to support all 3 platforms. Was going to get a G27, as I heard of the recent price drop (but no Xbox support), then I thought, wait, maybe fanatic has something worthwhile in the $300 price range?

I'd like to get your feedback on what I should get....

Are the CSR elite pedals worth it, or do I need to go for clubsport v2's (which would not fit in the budget)?

Do I go for the Forza CSR wheel or the Porsche 911 GT2 wheel (GT2 wheel is 50 bucks more but I can't figure out the difference)?

Anyways, any info on what you are using or might suggest to get would be appreciated. Cheers

I have the Forza Motorsport CSR wheel value pack XL  which will work on 360, PS3 and the PC and love it.  Only sad thing is they wont work on the xboxone

As for the pedals, I have the CSR Elite pedals with the additional inversion kit for the brake and clutch.  Adds to the feel but not required

I really enjoy my gt2 wheel. I like how solid the rim is and the alcantra covering I use it with the original clubsport pedals and knock on wood haven't had any problems with them yet.

I have the same set up. Love the GT2 and clubsports. Very immersive feel. I also have the TH8RS shifter with the Basherboards SFA1 adapter. The best shifter ever.

I have both the gt2 and the csr wheel. IMO the gt2 wheel has a better FFB effect and like bnt said it has a heavier rim. When racing in gt5 I had a hard time feeling the road with the csr.I havent tried either in gt6.If I was to pick one over the other I would go with the gt2. The only holdback would be the padel shifters on the gt2. I race now with the t500. with the ECCI pedals. Basherboards made me an adapter to hook the pedals to the wheel so I could use them in gt6. Life is good!!!

I can vouch for the csr XL pack iv had it coming on 2 years now and its great. So much you can adjust to suit your own driving/ other platforms.

The wheel rim is a bit shity but you forget that when you are racing. The paddles shifters are great.

So I cant speak for the GT2 as I have heard that the prefered frimware update for the GT2 wheel does not support ACL in FM4 (brnt can you confirm this?).  However with the CSR wheel and the latest firmware, there is a feature called ACL (Auto-Clutch-Logic) which in turns simulates the pressing of the button on the controller (like the controller guys do) when you use the paddle shifters.  This will allow you to use the "Manual with clutch" game setting in FM4 without actualing having to use the clutch or press a button on the wheel to engage the clutch.  If if your like me and just want to use the paddle shifters, the ACL feature is a huge bonus.  If you plan to use the clutch with the gated shifter than this is not a big deal.

Grim, you're correct. The 'stock' firmware does not support ACL but it at least does not disable the Headset mic support, as later firmware versions supposedly did. However, it's really not that hard to press the 'B' button and paddle shift at the same time for manual w/clutch.

Hate using paddle shifters as you have to keep both hands on the wheel(just use my left hand). Keep my right on the shifter and love using the clutch just like in real life. Never worried about or concerned myself with ACL so it's all good for me.

I have previously owned the CSR and GT2 wheels and both are great.  As for pedals, go with the CSR Elite or the Clubsport pedals.  The load cell brake makes a big difference.

Sorry about your TX wheel.  Mine arrives on Monday.  I hope I am not going to be beta testing yet another wheel.  sad

UPDATE

Hey Zero,

Sorry to scare you after you ordered the wheel, but to appease some of your concerns, I was able to fix the wheel with the help of Thrustmaster support. It required uninstalling all the Thrustmaster drivers/apps from my PC, running a registry cleaner to remove all the entries for Thrustmaster, running the driver install again. After doing that and connecting the wheel to the PC when prompted, it reflashed the firmware and got it up and running again.

Needless to say, the problems started when I installed the GTE wheel addon, so that was dispatched immediately back to Amazon with prejudice.

andrew, no need to apologize.  I have read many similar accounts of issues with the TX wheel.  I am glad you got yours up and running again.

Hey Ink, yeah I have their email. Is it completely dead as in the lights are not even coming on? If that's the case, it is what happened to my first wheel, and I don't think there's anything to be done but call support to replace it or return it to the store.
If the lights still come on but nothing else happens, the steps they last sent me might work.
Either way, I can pm you the email they sent but you should also contact them directly. They've been pretty receptive so far. Also try calling (both Canada and US numbers)
