Thrustmaster TX wheel for Xbox One my review

What do I think about the Ferrari Tx wheel for the Xbox One.I've used  it on and off since Wednesday Let start with  the look of the wheel , at a glance out of the box looks a bit toyish. To my surprise far from being toyish ! The wheel it self has lots of plastic on it , I do like the rubber grips on the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock position and also the metal paddle shifters . Once you drive with it , that feeling goes away immediately . The wheel base also lots of plastic , The reason for me  noticing the plastic is because the  only wheel I can compare it to is my CSR Elite whichis  90% metal . Not a fair comparison when it comes to material used for the build. I do remember my first wheel G27 that also was mostly plastic except the wheel. What you  want to know is how does it perform, and for that I must say excellent !This wheel has excellent FFB and you feel every bump, crack  and air born jumps when the wheels come off the ground it actually feels like your coming off the ground ," seriously!" that's something I can say I've never felt on the CSR Elite. With the TX the rumble strips feel like rumble strips when the car your driving hits the grass or sand it actually feels  real ,and boy oh boy when the tires get back on pavement  you better be ready to control the wheel . The pedals are pretty nice with some good resistance . Of course the 3 pedal set coming soon will probably be better but for now these work just fine. Now for compatibility with other peripherals . I have TH8R shifter from Thrustmaster which is for the T500 wheel , does not work with the TX wheel and my G27 pedals don't work also(I'm using the fanatec adapter which has a similar connection as the pedals that came with the TX wheel). I think they probably will in the future simply because this wheel will have firmware updates as the  new parts for the wheel start being available such as the 3 piece pedal set and the shifter. I could be wrong. I am getting the Ferrari GTE add on wheel next week which is a much sturdier wheel that has a lot less plastic on it. So in closing this a excellent wheel. Now for my pro and cons list.

Pros:

   Excellent  force feed back

   Very responsive

    Easy set up

    Firmware updates  with easy install

Affordable compared to other wheels on the market

    Interchangeable wheels and pedal

    PC compatible

Con:

   Lots of plastic

Wheel diameter small (for my hands)

  No clutch pedal

Settings for wheel only able to adjust on a PC ( CSR Elite / CSR on the wheel)

Final thoughts I am enjoying this wheel greatly ! It is a very good all around performer. If they ever make my CSR elite wheel compatible(Don't think it will happen) with Xbox One I may keep it still in the event that my CSR takes a crap. You will not be disappointed  with this wheel. See you on the track!

Thank you.

Odd that settings can't be adjusted on the wheel. Sort of inconvenient.  What settings are you running. Any word on whether this wheel will work with the PS3 via a USB connection?

It is inconvenient, that is one of the big pros of a Fanatec wheel compared to Thrustmaster or Logitech - on wheel adjustments.

I have not tried hooking it to the ps3. In regards to the adjustment on the wheel. Thrustmaster and turn 10 will have a update regarding ffb adjustment on wheel and some other items.. should be available mid December.

FORZA 5 & TX RACING WHEEL: Second Forza Motorsport 5 update scheduled for mid-December.
Additional forces optimization and fine-tuning of TX Force Feedback Effects with Forza Motorsport 5 will be included in Forza Motorsport 5 second update scheduled mid-December – This will bring great additional enhancement such as improved forces strength, optimizing wheel & controller profile management, providing user option to set the degrees of rotation.

It might be a while Wheels.  I am liking the game with the controller and so I am in no rush to get the TX wheel.

I've got mine sitting at my house too, but I'm out of town at the moment. I'll post up some impressions as soon as I get home and get it set up.

So I ordered the Ferrari GTE add on wheel for the TX wheel on Thursday (Turkey Day)  thru Amazon Prime, i received it  today Sunday . I was very surprised !  Anyway I installed it  on to the wheel base took about 5 min and off I went on to the track . Now with the new wheel  all the ffb feels that much better. The add on wheel has 90% metal 10% plastic , the wheel that came with the base was 80% plastic and 20% metal. Big difference , because of this you feel more effects thru the wheel. I also read thru some other forums that you can change wheel rotation on demand thru the wheel it self  (this was for theT500 wheel) being that the wheel base for the TX was similar with identical button placementI tried it and works. It has 4 different settings the lowest 270 and the highest 900 . I forget the 2 in the middle settings. Anyway this wheels is great.

Hey Guys, I wanted to give you guys an update on the Thrustmaster TX, or my ongoing story with it. It's awesome that Ink's experience with it has been good, as are a lot of the experiences that have been posted on FM.net and isrtv.com.

Unfortunately mine to this point has not been so good. That's not the whole story, it is still developing... But  I wanted to give an update to make sure you are all informed.

I got my wheel on Tuesday evening. I set it up and followed all the instructions to the letter. Updated my PC to Win 8.1 in anticipation of installing the drivers and doing the firmware update. The firmware update went smoothly, no issues. I then went through the driver config and tested all the FFB behaviours, all the buttons, the wheel and pedals. I then set up the wheel on the Xbx1, turned off my other controller, started Forza 5. Went right into free play an started using the wheel.

So Awesome!! Comng from the Xbox wheel, what a difference. Not to excited about the feel of the wheel rim, and some of the buttons weren't so great feeling, but okay. At first, Forza didn't recognize that it was a wheel connected, and the 900 deg rotation had a big deadzone in the middle. So I quit out, reconnected to the PC and set the DOR to 270 (or 360 maybe). Felt much better when I restarted Forza 5. Had 1 hour of awsomeness with the wheel. My wife even tried it and was blown away by FFB and rumble sensations.

Then..... it stopped working. Disconnected, total dark. No lights, nothing. Restarting did nothing, pull out power plug and back in nothing, reconnect USB, nothing. Connect back to PC.... nothing. Since I wanted the wheel for T-giving weekend and I knew Gamestop wouldn't be able to get me another in time, I called Thrustmaster support instead to see what they could do. Got to speak to someone pretty quickly, went through the diagnostic procedure and nothing. So he ask o have me send them back the base and they would send another. I told them I'd just send it back to Gamestop, and he pleaded with me not to, because this was the first instance of this happenning and they needed the base in order to diagnose the issue.

So I decided I would be a partner to them on the issue and send it back. At this point, I'm still waiting for the replacement ( or even a tracking number to confirm it shipped). Beyond that, 2 things I wanted to point out: 1) They seem to have a firm commitment to ensuring any manufacturing issue that comes up is addressed. 2) They have phone support, and do answer the phone. In fact when I follow up called and couldn't speak to the agent or supervisor because they were gone for the day, the support person reminded me I was calling France at 11pm. Shows they at least have a level of commitment to Global support I'll give a further update and review when I get my replacement.

@andrew that really sucks.  Hope they resolve it quickly for you.

One thing I noticed that concerned me was the fans on the wheel stayed on after I told my xbox to turn off.  It has happened twice now, unplugging the power and unplugging the usb both got it to stop.  Hasn't happened everytime though.  I've also had one time where it wasn't recognized when I turned on the XB1.  I had to unplug the USB to fix that.  Both those issues seem software related to me so hopefully they get sorted (maybe due to the XB1 going to sleep rather than actually shutting down).  Until I hear otherwise though I'll be unplugging the USB after each use.

Also the mounting holes on the wheel line up exactly with the bars under the plate on my Obutto Ozone, so I'll have to make an adapter plate to hard mount it.  In the mean time the clamp is working ok.   I got the pedals mounted up though.  My thoughts are pretty close to Ink's, however I'm coming from a 911 Turbo S so the wheel uis a huge upgrade for me.  The pedals not so much.  They will work until I can get something better, but anyone who's coming from clubsports will be let down.

I haven't tried it on the PS3 yet either.  Unfortunately mine's on loan to my niece at the moment.  I'll try it out asap though.

I own a Thrustmaster T500RS wheel and it was not unusual for the fans to stay on even after I powered off my PS3 or PC.  So long as there is power to the wheel, the fans can work and to be candid, you want them to work.  Otherwise, the motor could overheat.

Hey @HadOne,

The Fan might not be a software thing, not to alarm you.... you might, if you haven't alredy, try to leave it for 10-15 mins and see if it shuts itself off eventually, to be sure.

Hadone, just to make sure I understand you correctly the wheel itself feels/is better than a 911 turbo s but the pedals don't come close to the clubsports. Any indication of costs including the GTE rim?

@Zeratul, yep exactly what I was trying to say.  Have to add a bit to it now though.  I prefer the leather feel of the 911 wheel than the plastic and rubber on the TX, but that is really the only + in my opin.  The feedback is much stronger and smoother on the TX.

Wheel itself was $399, the GTE Rim (which I don't have) is going for $117 on Amazon at the moment.  Not sure yet if I'm going to get that rim.  The size and shape are pretty appealing though, but I really want to feel the material before I decide if is worth the extra money.  No word yet on the pedals and shifter, but the TH8RS is $129 so the XB1 version should be about the same.  If I had to guess about the 3 pedal setup I'd say $150-200.  The total package could end up around $800.

Regarding the pedals, my gas pedal is starting to squeak already.  Very annoying.  I'll have to see if I can isolate the noise and maybe add some lubricant.  Overall I'm happy so far.  This wheel seems like a good long term investment that will grow along with the Forza series.  Should be the only one I need to buy for another 6 years or so.

`I believe all their wheel rims are made of the same material. I do know that the addon wheel is 80% metal, so it should feel heavier. Might increase the ffb feel, I have the addon wheel for the t500 and I love the way it feels.

I just5 bought the gte wheel from amazon. It makes a world of difference with the add on , well worth the $117.00. I even had it covered with suede like the sparco and momo rims. I did it myself looks great and feels even better.

No I took the wheel to a guy who does custom steering wheel upholstery once he told me the price he would charge to do it in suede (175.00) I said how about you sell me the suede and thread a few pointers and I will attempt to do it myself. 60.00 bucks later I did it myself and I must say not to shabby for a first timer. I will try to post a few pics. Looks the same as a momo or sparco wheel. Only smaller. Feels awesome !

Dang upgrading to the XB1 is going to be expensive, luckily I've got time to save till Q2 2014. The box won't be released until then in my country.

Been playing with my TX since my pre-order arrived on black Friday. Love it. I also picked up a set of T500 pedals(with the Basher mod) and the T500 F1 rim. Amazing package. I really like this setup much better than my G25, G27, and my Fanatec GT2 with Clubsports(when using these T500 pedals). FFB is awesome and on par with what I remember from a brief drive on the T500. I've put this through a lot of long sessions with plenty of 30+ lap races. Wheel is performing flawlessly. I plan on getting the GTE rim and of course the TH8A shifter when it releases...

I thought I would point out that you can adjust the degrees of rotation on the TX wheel on the fly in game. You simply hold the D-pad to the left(engine start button) and the mode button on the left side of the base at the same time. Let go and the mode light will blink to tell you the setting. I'm not positive of the increments but I do know there are 4 settings. 4 blinks is 900 deg and 1 blink is 270 deg. 2 blinks and 3 blinks will be increments in between. It's very easy to do and I've been using it for a while now to Taylor the wheel to the car I'm driving. Not sure if you guys knew that already but hopefully someone finds it useful.
