Where to begin?????

As a total rookie to the GT franchise, I'm trying to figure out where to begin but it seems the deeper I dig, the more confused I get.  Trying to understand the tuning, how PP's work, what the difference is between premium and standard cars, how do licenses work,  what is the best way to earn credits when starting out?  It seems like all the conversations I'm finding are geared to those that already know GT5 and seeing a lot of comments like, "same as GT5" or "unlike GT5, you can do this differently" which really does not help someone who does not know GT5. sad

All that said, how do you guys plan to start out once you get the game.  Any insight will be appreciated

Actually, as a PS3/GT virgin, its this unknown that gives it a good deal of appeal. Forza is like comfortable shoes. Now I'm going to have to push myself again.

I didn't play GT5, but I did play 1-4 fairly extensively.

The upgrade path for cars is sightly different than forza in that there are generally more prepackaged suspension packages, such as a rally tune, sport tune etc. That said, I'd think most around here will unlock the full racing suspension that allows you to tune it yourself.

Not sure about pp, so hopefully someone else can chime in on that

The premium cars are the equivalent of what forzas cars are, built just for the ps3. Standard cars were cars from ps2 days that were slapped into the game to increase the car count.  It does sound like they cleaned up some of the really crappy standard cars, so that's good, but as far as I know, the standards do not have cockpit view

Licenses are usually a series of medial tasks such as accelerate to x speed then stop in this box in so much time.  I hate them with a passion and generally view them as one of the grinding aspects that drove me away from the series in the first place.  Not too sure how they're handled this time around, so should be interesting to see.

Hopefully best buy will get my system to me by the 6th, but they seem to be dragging their heels on shipping my order.  I'm gonna be really bummed if I can't get on there right away, especially since I haven't been able to race since my 360 took a crap nearly a year ago, and I'm really excited about this one

Dont get me wrong, I too am very excited to try something new.  Its just overwhelming at times the more I dig into things.  I did find out that my ps3 will be delivered on Friday and will be able to pick up the game on the same day.  Aside from Friday Night Track Nite, the 207 Series and the BTCC, I plan to lock my self in the office next weekend except for food and try to learn this thing.

No worries though grim.

Once we get going we should be able to Q and A a lot of things. I will get a topic setup on release day dedicated to this.

Currently Playing:

PP (performance points) is the same as Forza's PI (performance index) system. Big difference between the two systems is tires do not affect GT's PP rating. With 9 different tire compounds with varying levels of grip and endurance everyone needs to run the same tire compound unless you plan on using it as a handicap.

Now simma down...now, its only a simple racing game you'll figure it out soon enough and when you do we'll probably end up doing some silly night racing :) and you're gonna love the race options...and track selection 6
