Looking to buy a PS3, Need advise.

Hey guys,

So I'm looking to get a PS3 in the near future but don't want to spend a small fortune either

I found a Refurbished PS3 Slim with 120GB for $149.00 at GameStop.  This seems to be a decent deal for me as I only plan on playing GT6 on it.  My questions are:

  • Is the 120GB drive large enough?
  • Is there anything else to consider?
  •
  • Thanks

I think the original 40G ones will work too. I'm looking at spending £120 Total for the game and Playstation. But if you can wait until the launch of the ps4 do. They already have the 360 at my local supermarket for £99.00 and that's brand new.

I have an original 40 gig ps3 and works just fine, basically just for GT series.

Did it have the harddrive in it. Around here GS will sell refurb but the hard drives are not included.

That slim will work.  The hard drive is more than big enough for GT5 and GT6.  My two extra PS3s for triple screen GT5 play are 160 GB PS3 slims and they work great.  My original PS3 60 GB has more bells and whistles, including more USB ports and backwards compatibility, but those features are luxuries, not necessities.

Not sure if anyone else needs a system but it look like Walmart will have a New PS3 16GM with controller for 149.00 this weekend (not a black friday only deal) so I might be able to get it this weekend

Guys, I would be careful about buying the 12 or 16 GB PS3s if you want to play GT6.  I do not know the total, but my faint recollection is that the GT5 hard drive install, including updates, exceeds 20 GB.  There is no digital only option for GT5, it is all disk, yet it still has a lot of install on hard drive.  My guess is that GT6 will be equal or larger in terms of hard drive install space required.

Not looking good for me Im affraid.  I refuse to pay $200+ for a system I plan on playing 1 game on and I wont buy a used console (had a bad experience), refurbished ok, but not used.

Just keep looking Grimm I'm sure you will be able to get a ps3 between 100 to 150 bucks within the next few weeks. Keep your ear to the ground and let people know your looking for a ps3 cheap, maybe someone has recently purchased a ps4 and looking to unload the ps3.

Hell at the very least you have a pretty damn good 3d bluray player and it's not like they are not making games for the system for some time.

Grim, I think you need a minimum of 30Gigs. Refer to this article:

Can you use a USB flash drive for storage on the ps3? That's what I had my full Forza 4 install on and had no issues

Grim, it may be possible to add a USB stick for storage.  If it were me, however, I would go with a PS3 that has more than 12 or 16 GB.  I question why Sony even sells such a configuration, it is woefully light on internal storage.  I started in 2006 with a 60 GB PS3 and I quickly filled that up and eventually upgraded to a 320 GB hard drive.

Bigger HD is better.BUT, he only plans on using it to play GT6 and thats all. So a ps3 with 40 gig or more will be enough.

I see some deals on the ps3 are coming in. It really is a good console and has lots to offer and no need for psn + although it's a good service with lot's of free games and now for 30 bucks a yr at Amazon today. But here is a deal for ya, the two games that come with it are epic I guess at least I've heard The Last of Us is.

That's the bundle I just picked up from Best Buy (online) this morning, Brnt. In researching the PS3, I told myself it was just for GT6, but I know better... :)

Hard to find a decent used one at that price, plust two games I'll enjoy playing (I KNOW I'd have picked up the Batman one for the 360 eventually.)

Looking forward to joing you guys in some racing soon!

I picked up this bundle. Found it for $199 at Target. Had a 20% off coupon and a $10 gift card. My total was $162 and change, after taxes. Not bad, eh? I will probably be hooking it up and getting signed on later tonight. This way I'll be ready for Friday.   PSN ID = SnappyDee, er....I think.

Just purchased a Refurbished PlayStation 3 250GB System SLIM for $189.00. (saved $50.00) Considering it was only $10.00 more than the 120gb system, figured I would bite the bullet and get it  More than I wanted to spend but its done.  Will have it in a week or so.  Still may not be able to play it until xmas eve though crying

How many do you need? smiley

I tried to buy one off someone at work today who's just got a PS4, but he wanted a £100, seemed a bit steep and you've just confirmed it for me. Thanks.

Think I'll start scoping on Ebay......

Nice prices.

So gt6 is ordered, but I'm off skiing in France Saturday week, so I'm going to wait 2 weeks since I'm not going to be around. Maybe prices will drop even further.
