Hey wait a minute, does this mean you've finally acquired this car in GT5?

BrntGuy -> Parcells can say "Brands Hatch" what do I win? Will they take us some place special?

Time to get some adrenalin into you boys about the possibilities with GT6. Snappy, you especially will love this. You can set up races in GT5 where the tyres and/or gas will run out and you can set it up so you run out of gas within a 15-18 minute race no problem. Of course by that time your tyres will be totally fucked so you’ve probably waited too long to pit. And if you up the race length you can force a one or two pit stop strategy quite easily. My point being if GT5 has this option Parcells expects it to be available in GT6.

Here’s what I did one time for a GT5 Thursday night. It took a lot of effort (to get the laps right – I had to essentially run the entire race twice, using a 1 & 0 pit stop strategy) but the results were impressive.

First practice/set-up race I set the laps long enough to know the gas will run out. During this race I purposely tried to baby the tyres (i.e. drive consistent not aggressive) just to see how many laps I could do on a tank of gas to essentially set the # of laps for the race. This also provided the total race time. I also made note of the race time of the laps just preceding when I knew the gas was about to run out. These times were needed to gauge the eventual number of race laps.

During the second race I pitted half way through the total laps run in race 1. Then proceeded to race until I got near the laps run in race 1…when I passed the start/finish line one or two laps before the number of laps run in race 1 I started making notes of the times it took to get there. From there I simply set the number of race laps based on the closest finish time of when I passed the start/finish line of each race on the same numbered lap.

Here’s what I learned using this method…(tested 5 tracks)

1)     3 of 5 races were < 5 seconds apart between the two strategies. Other 2 within 10 seconds. I was very pleased with these results.

2)     All but one race length was ultimately decided on tyre wear, meaning the tyres wore out before the gas ran out. But it was very close in all cases. The tyre degradation seems similar to the early part of the 2012 F1 season where once the tyres start going off they deteriorate very quickly. Once you start losing 2+ seconds per lap the next thing you know you’re losing 5 or more seconds easily.

3)     Based on the results of the testing I did in fact use the zero pit stop strategy in all but one race and I’m pretty sure I won every race even the one where I pitted (this was a almost a year ago). That means essentially crap but the main guy who almost always competes with me totally fucked his pit stops (waited way too long) and was never a factor to be honest. But xxsitement came in second I think in every race and not too far behind me using a 1 pit stop strategy (xxsitement is probably faster(more consistent) in GT5 than Forza).

4)     Snappy is going to love the race options (notably tyre and fuel wear rates) in GT6.

I'm pretty damn excited for GT6, especially after reading alot of the feedback on what's missing in FM5. Really neither console had much of anything on my radar for me to invest in a new system atm. Not ready to plunk a grand or more on a Xbone and Thrustmaster for that limited of content and uncertainty of the game as a whole. I'm glad I saved a bunch of money by not impulse buying the new xbox. GT6 has Spa and Bathust and changing day/nite cycle on them also plus so many more and with the new physics I have very high hopes of this being the GT we have been wanting for quite some time, well me at least.

The only major concern I have with GT6 is the tuning aspect.  I'm finally understanding how to tune in FM and Im concerned my lack of tuning gt knowledge will be frustrating.

I do have a question about clutch and paddle shifting.  With the Fanatec wheel, I can use the ACL (Auto Clutch) which allows me to use the Manual with Clutch setting in game without having to use the actual clutch pedal or a button on the wheel.  This only works for paddle shifting and since I dont have a way of installing the shifters on my rig, I plan to continue to use the paddle shifters.  That said, how does the clutch work on GT5? do you expect it to be any different in GT6?  What kind of settings are there?

Thanks

Don't worry about tuning grim as the skills you have learned on Forza are universal. The settings you change are the same for real life cars etc. If you even picked up gt2 you will now be Able to tune ;)

I've not heard the clutch will be any different in GT6 and I use the same set up you do so you will not have any issues using your paddle shifter with GT6. In Gt5 there is no specific game setting for the clutch...the default setting is you do not need to use the clutch. You engage the clutch (make it necessary to use) by doing something before you start racing...not sure (forget) what it is you need to do but rest assured you can use the clutch or not.

GT6 tuning - If I was you I'd be more concerned about GT6 providing a better option to tune the car. Church is right in that the same options are there to tune but whether GT or Forza tuning options actually reflect reality are separate issues and I'm not so sure either are overly accurate??? Anyway the worse part about tuning in GT5 is you cannot simply pause the game and tune your car...you have to go back into the lobby to do so then start the session over again with cold tyres which is very time consuming.

Forza has the clear advantage here. And while it wouldn't affect you personally as you can tune your own stuff and tune it well I do hope GT6 allows you to share tunes via file transfer so people like Parcells can enjoy the fruits of your hard work. I read where GT6 will allow file transfers of on-line room set-ups so I'm hoping Gt6 will allow sharing of tunes too. Currently we're using the below sharing spreadsheet which only covers the build, it's so 90's.

Next question for you guys.  Headphones.  As some of you with Fanatec wheels know, are there any issues about using wired headphones with the fanatec wheels and the PS3?  I know with the xbox, it was super sensitive and guys in lobbies were picking up humming at times in FM5.  As I don't plan to spend very much on these (no more than around $40.00) what do you guys recommend that I can use with my fanatec csr wheel?

Thanks

I didn't even know you could use wired headsets with the PS3, thought they were all blue tooth only? Any blue tooth device should work...I have the standard ~$40.00 "PS3 blue tooth" and it works fine. Not outstandaing by any stretch of the imagination surely there must be better blue tooth devices but certainly manageable. Seems like my vocie breaks up more so than others with perhaps better than the basic model??

You can use just about any Bluetooth headset with the PS3.  I personally use these headphones, but they are somewhat outside of your budget of $40.  If you decide to stretch that, IMO, these Sony Pulse Elite Headphones are the best you can get for PS3.  They are regularly priced at $150, but I have seen them cheaper.

Yes Brnt, yes. That was awesome! Thanks.

Do you have on board footage of the Nurburgring at night? I just want people to get an idea of what it looks like.
