well you better make sure its not been updated, i sure i read if its had system updates the old stuff wont work, mine will no longer support linux not sure about the games
The original ps3 could play ps2 games not sure if it was removed by update and I would suggest you get a 40gb fat or a slim ps3 as the original had a high failure rate.
Church, I wouldnt trust any ps3 other than the slim. The older ones would break right after the 1 year warrenty. I have seen this happen several times in the past I have the slim and its lasted already 3 years.

But I have paid for it now
I went with the fat one for the Back Compact with my PS2 / 1 Games.
I'm still on my original "fat" unit. I think I purchased it about a year after release and have several hundred (if not thousands) of hours on it. Make you you give it adequate ventilation. I think one of the issues the early ones had was people didn't give them enough airspace and they literally cooked themselves. Maybe mine was an anomoly.....but they still had a much lower failure rate than first run x360s. (Of course I'm still on my original x360 too)
To date the only console I've had to replace was my PS2.....and it lasted until the PS3 release, but I didn't have the money for the 3 so I picked up another PS2 for GT4 to get me by.
It's cheap enough not to stress about it but I have some good thermal paste and pads in the house so will be breaking her open tomorrow. Also modified my PC/xbox ventilation system :)
It's Ok. The kid who sold it on eBay didn't want to give it me at that price so we mutually agreed to bin the auction. The wife says I can just buy a new one first week in December though now :)

I bought my fat 60 GB PS3 in December 2006 for $599. It includes full backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2 games, a feature that I have rarely used. It is still alive and kicking despite almost seven years of regular use at least weekly. If I had to guess, I would say it has over 1000 hours of use, if not more on it. It is easily the best consumer electronics product I have ever purchased. GT5, which I bought in November 2010, is my favorite video game of all time. I am still regularly playing it almost three years after I bought it, which is far and away the best video game investment I have ever made.
My Online ID is SkiwiNV. Got GT5 up and running. Took forever to update and install even though I have the XL edition that is supposed to have everything. Will pick up GT6 on 6-Dec-13 nd spend the weekend getting that installed.
Thought I would crawl out of my hole and say hello. @ Parcells. you are going to need a bigger boat for thurs nights.
New digs. Spacious. Clean. Tidy.

Already? Are you guys going to bother with GT5 or just getting ready or GT6?
I was going to wait to get a PS3 until the PS4 was released.
I do, I've never really played much after the 2.0 update. It's quite good.
im running cars on the ring and they are all really diffrent. And collecting racing gear from the seasonals also.
You can sign up before you even have a system. Im not getting the PS3 until late December and going to GT6 only
What Grim said!

To keep up the appearance of a democracy, smart ass.
Almost the definition of a real Democracy eh

Never had a problem with my ps3 fat either. AFAIK tho I think one of the updates did away with backward compatibility for ps2 games and linux.
Shit she's a keeper!.gif)
