Very interesting. I have enough extra parts where I'm going to build a SteamBox and put it in my living room. I'm curious to see if it will be able to play Direct3D games or be limited to OpenGL.

Wanted this for a long time but still there are a ton of questions that will have to be answered.  How will EA's, Ubisoft's and other distribution services work with Steam OS?  Will MS play nice with Valve when it comes to dual booting?  Still it's free since it's Linux based which is a huge incentive to give it a go.

It will be an incentive to give it a go but will it stick? If it works OK I might give it a go. I'll take a wait and see approach.

"Access the full Steam catalog of nearly 3000 games and desktop software titles via in-home streaming."

Looks like it will stream Windows only games from your main Windows rig to the 'dumb box' under your tv like Onlive or Gaikai. Only better performance since it's on your personal lan.

I'm curious what the steambox specs will be so I can build my own at a cheaper price. Also they better be announcing HL3 instead of L4d never have liked that series.

Titan? I7's? Some of those configs are complete overkill for 1080p gaming. Not to mention will be priced way beyond your average household budget. Enthusiasts won't buy them since you'll be able to diy much cheaper and mom and dad won't fork out a g when there are plenty of cheaper alternatives with the same capabilities. I'm kind of surprised that the specs weren't more modest? I was hoping to throw one together for around 3 to 4 bills...... Oh well just give me that sweet new controller and HL3 and I'm cool.
