Cheers fella.

A few of us ran this and the first few races before it all got silly where really good fun.

Although me and Jonny had an epic battle @ Atlanta until a Merc SLR joined us .

The replay on my SF was a trial run using TC (which I do not use) 1:35.205.

I ran without TC at 1:35.217 which I have not loaded into SF yet; will do soon.

Losing so much time shifting (using controller = no clutch) using the qualifying build (production transmission).

Are you using Manual Clutch with the joypad GRD?

No clutch, just manual shifting.  I have tested manual clutch upshifting only and I know the distinct advantage of using it but I do not use it in races simply because of extra finger movements are distracting in midst of tight racing.  Plus, in simulation mode I cannot downshift properly leading to transmission damage.

I am currently using:

A = upshift

B = downshift

LT = brake

RT = accelerate

LB = manual clutch (when I do try it)

So upshift = Press/Hold LB + A + Release LB (simple enough)

Downshift = Holding LT (usually) + Release RT + Press/Hold LB + B + Blip RT + Release LB.

I use my left index for braking.  If I used the middle finger for braking then it may be possible to do this but I use index finger for sensitivity.  It may be a matter of training my middle finger for braking this is a lot of finger work . . . plus I may need the middle finger for other uses . . .

Is there a known method to clutch-downshift-blip using the joypad?

There is an option to change the clutch button from LB to A button, that way your thumb covers both buttons when shifting, its a whole lot easier

What Max said.

I use the A button for the clutch. Just press both together then :-)

Gotta think outside the box!  I'll give that a try!  Thanks for the tip.

I have tried A-Clutch and LB/RB-Shifting and managed a 1:34.5/1:34.0 (clean/dirty) in hot lapping.  The control still seem awkward to me; it's as if I'm learning to drive all over again.

I'll do a proper Q run once I am more familiar with the new layout since 1:35.217 does not represent my pace.

If you change your buttons to

X = Downshift

B = Upshift

A = Clutch

That way your thumb always hits the A on every gear change as it is already in that position if you were just on manual.

It does feel odd at first but within a day or 2 you wont even notice it. You might find you may miss the clutch for a few laps which gives you a 4% gearbox damage so you may go through a few gearboxes at first.

Keep at it, its worth it

the way i ran the clutch with the controller was to switch the downshift to the RB so that your always mostly off the acc when shifting down

I'll try that too, MP.  Did not find X-Downshift too appealing but I can keep my trigger fingers and downshifts are not as critical as upshifts therefore little X button awkwardness would be far more easier change than LB/RB shifting.

Thank you for the pointers!

I have small delicate hands therefore A-B & A-X combination did not work well but I'm getting accustomed to LB/RB-A combo.

Welcome Green

There is one open spot left.

In regards to wheels ect I personaly use a joy pad. I think the split of pad and wheel users is around 50/50 so dont worry about using a joypad.

Parcells I appreciate your concern but I would find it very hard to beat your time. If I spent some time an effort I might get close but I doubt it. So in this rare case I bow to your impressive speed. That actually hurt a little bit.
