Guinness strips Bugatti of top speed record...

http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2013/04/10/ssc-reclaims-top-speed-record-but-guinness-says-not-so-fast/?intcmp=features

In the wake of Guinness stripping the title of World’s Fastest Production car from the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport due to an apparent rules violation, the old title holder has returned to claim the crown

Little known Washington State-based SSC (formerly Shelby Supercars) set a mark of 256.14 mph back in 2007. Its wedge-shapped, 1,183 hp Ultimate Aero hitting that speed on a closed public highway outside of the company’s West Richland headquarters.

“This wasn't how we planned to reclaim the record. But it will do until [SSC’s new car] the Tuatara takes a run at several records that exist out there,” said SSC founder Jerod Shelby on the company’s website.

The thing about it is, he’s wrong.

Last week, Texas' own Hennessey performance claimed the production car record for its Venom GT with a run of 265.7 mph on an airstrip in California, arguing that the Bugatti’s record of 267.8 mph was bogus because the cars sold to customers were fitted with a restrictor that limited their top speed to 258 mph.

The Venom GT’s run wasn’t certified buy Guinness, but after Hennessey’s announcement shed light on the circumstances surrounding Bugatti's record, the organization decided that the modification of the restrictor was against its guidelines.

But that wasn't the end of it. When Guinness invalidated the Bugatti’s record, it put all of its “production car” records under review.

As a result, a Guinness spokesperson tells FoxNews.com that there is currently “no record holder in the category.” That includes the Ultimate Aero.

There is a new Veyron to be announced in the next few weeks.

Reports are saying 1600bhp and + 300mph to speed.

There is a picture been posted on the FB this past week:

And that's all I know.

Also the Venom did the run one way only. That why its not got the record.

Honestly, find somewhere to run it, and the Venom will smoke the current Veyron. I don't know of anywhere other than the VW owned track the Veyron ran, and VW isn't going to allow that...

Forgot to post this:

April 16th

After having its world record for fastest production car thrown into question by a competitor and put under review by Guinness, Bugatti is back on top. Its record set back in 2010 is official all over again after a reconfirmation by Guinness.

Guinness put the issue to bed on Friday:

"Following a thorough review conducted with a number of external experts, Guinness World Records is pleased to announce the confirmation of Bugatti’s record of Fastest production car achieved by the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport.

The focus of the review was with respect to what may constitute a modification to a car’s standard specification.

Having evaluated all the necessary information, Guinness World Records is now satisfied that a change to the speed limiter does not alter the fundamental design of the car or its engine."

I don't know that I agree with that.

Fastest production car to me means AS SOLD...and it wasn't.

The minute someone changes a chip or removes a limiter it's not AS SOLD...

Although even if they did lose the title it wouldn't have gone to the venom anyway as there run was only one way and was not monitored. It would have gone to SSC though.

The needs SSP is out soon. 0 - 62? 1.8 Seconds :O

The new SSc is almost done, dynoed at verified 1350 hp...and they claim that's easily attained and the motor will do more...on pump gas...

http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2013/04/29/ssc-tuatara-1350-hp-ouput-confirmed-on-dyno/

Strapped to an engine dyno, the in-house developed V-8 easily reached SSC’s performance target of 1,350 horsepower and 1,280 pound-feet of torque--on 91 octane gasoline bought at the pump.

But what’s even more insane is that SSC is calling this only the standard output. The company says the engine is easily capable of over 1,700 horsepower, for those owners that “don't want or need to be buffered by regulations.
