I really hate to say it but I think gamers are actually just as much at fault for the current state of the industry as the developers and publishers.  If we stopped buying EA stuff because lets face it, they haven't successfully launched a game in 5 years so clearly they don't give a shit, maybe they'd have incentive to change.  We buy and buy and buy and there are little to no consaquences (aka downside) for the publishers to do anything different.

I personally killed my pre-order the minute I saw all the problems.  I likewise did the same with Aliens CM when Gearbox thought it was OK to shit that game out of their anus.  But SimCity's already sold a shit ton of copies, they've made their money.  We as a community need to stop accepting this bullshit.

Well maybe people are starting to get fed up.

The industry on a whole was down 22% on total sales, last year compared too 2011

This game is just another push to this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_video_game_crash_of_1983

If you read the wiki, its very very easy to start seeing similarities of now and 1983 in gaming land.

If a game is required to play online, like an MMORPG, then it fails within SECONDS after losing connection. Not exactly true with Simcity:

http://kotaku.com/5990165/my-simcity-city-thrived-offline-for-19-minutes

No doubt here any more, this is DRM. Furthermore, given how he played for 19min offline, I believe they straight up lied about the connection being needed. Normally, I would not accept a rumer as truth but what-do-you-know I got a link:

The definition of apathy is offering a pissed off customer an older version of the game they just bought that won't work... At least everyone can play Simcity4 offline.

I was reading more on the mod to make the game playable offline.  I guess there's a line of code in the game that will shut the game down if you loose your connection for more than 20 minutes.  If you go in and remark the line out so the code doesn't execute it, you can play offline forever.  Everything works minus the online portions proving that Maxis/EA lied about the game needing to be online because the servers process much of the game simulation.

I believe you can't save your city if you are off line.

In other news Electronic Arts' John Riccitiello is stepping down as chief executive officer.   http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/03/18/ea-ceo-john-riccitiello-steps-down?utm_campaign=twposts&utm_source=twitter  ( for $5, you can read the full story straight from EA's website)

Nice, good riddance to that guy.  I nominate Peter Moore for CEO.

They're loosing money because of their shitty reputation and excessive wallet leeching.  Ya we get it you're a business and have share holders to take notice but we the gamers who buy your shit think you've gone a few steps too far with your money grubbing.

Speaking of share-holders, when I read the CEO left and that earnings were going to be lower than expected, I placed some trades and made a couple hundreds dollars off it.  Feels good to profit off of EA's stock dropping over 8%.

I personally think Bank of America deserves the title more than EA. But, having their own CEO starts a blog post called "We can do better" and then shifts blame back on to their own customer base is pretty f*cking disgraceful.

After re-reading that, I am sure he just called us winey homophobes that hate the cover art to Madden football. Well, damn...

The problem is most people will never know, the majority of their customers that do know just don't care and the rest will still buy buy a game they got their eye on. This will only influence maybe 1 gamer out of a couple hundred where they WON'T buy their products. Guys like Moore and Pitchford know this. So they can say whatever they want and it really will never hurt their bottom line.

EA is the WalMart of the gaming industry. Everyone hates them with good reason, but they remain on top because the bottom line is that most will still patronize them despite controversy.

I qut buying EA when they tied up the Porsche brand and wouldn't work out a deal with Forza until well after it's release. That was almost 2 years ago I'm guessing?

And I don't care if they care, it's all about me, not them.

Peter Moore's response, pretty much echo's what he already said in his blog.....  his statements are recycled as much as their game content one year to the next lol....
