4v4 Discussion

So Mato and I jumped into some 4v4 last night for one game.  In that game I think I went 7 and 9, It seemed every time I turned around I was getting 2v1'd or 3v1'd.  I'm sure part of that is due to the fact that we were more or less playing 3v4, but I thought I'd try to spark up some discussion about 4v4 strategies.

For one, I know you guys are going to mention we should play with a full party, and yes we're open to that.  We are available Monday through Thursday between 9 and 11 Eastern if two of you are interested in setting up one or two days a week to run and strategize together.

But also I know with at least Halo 3 there were map callouts, setups, etc.  The map we played on was Abandon and although I know I can call out "2 at 'cliff'" there seems to be so many nooks and crannies that I suspect it's hard to get set up in a way for that to be beneficial.  Is this part of the frustrations you guys have been talking about or is it doable?

So mainly I want to spark discussion on what you guys that are having success do, do you set up, do you use callouts, what are your strategies, and how do you also have those moments where the entire apposing team seems to move in a clump and how does your team (that I assume is set up and spread out) combat that among other things.  I'd ideally like to hear how you guys setup and work together on a per-map basis if anyone is willing to share.

Im not a great player but have noticed some of the same things and can give my observations.

I go into 4v4 solo a lot and sometimes find that too.  Where some if not all of the other team are working together well and find myself on the short end of numbers in a scrap as my team is doing their own thing.  If you were playing with one other person and had mics should'nt have been 1v anything if you guys worked together.  Running at least in packs of 2 help a lot.

I am with you a lot of the maps call outs are a bitch when I do have teammates with a mic.  "need help in the grey hall"  or "coming out the tunnel"  when there are 4 of each isnt real helpful and hopefully I will learn better call outs.

I dont know Mato or your style of play but some people styles dont mesh.  Someone who likes to camp and snipe versus someone who rolls with the AR and CQC will get you split up f someone gets impatient. (edit after I saw your blog now I know why you said 4v3 and got stuck 3 or 4v1)

I like 4v4 matchmaking have a mic and play 8:30 to 10:30 ish most nights after kids are in bed.  hit me with a FR if interested.

I'm not a huge fan of Abandon, but on that map, you can hold top middle and usually dictate the flow of the map.  Vanilla Abandon has stupid spawns.  One team is going uphill, the other team is coming downhill, and the one that gets that high ground first (usually red team) gets to be in the driver's seat first.  Abandon is another example of how the competitive version of the map is better than the vanilla version of the map.

Toc,

It is difficult at best in H4 to have permanent set ups (in a H2 or H3 type of way) for every map. The way the maps and standard game types (mainly non objective) are set up do not lend themselves to this strat.

You definately do want to be aware fo choke points (or at least heavily traveled areas) of the map and either avoid them or get to them quickly and get ready for the bad guys coming to them. I know you know this, just a little reminder.

Now the issue of running into pacs when it is like 3v2,4v2 or whatever, well you are pretty much fubared and hopefully you can at least trade kills.

All maps have callouts but "generally" for vanilla maps I like to use initial weapon spawns (when playing IS) as a guide, i.e. Haven. You have needler and sticky det. So if I know I need help at the side where sticky det starts out at I will say, 2 coming from sticky det to mohawk top side. Or if it was Needler side low I would say 1 going from needler to mohawk at Needler window.

But I am sure different groups have different call outs for the same thing which can make things difficult.

One of the nice things in the throwdown playlist are that maps are made with color striping or colored lighting along with static power weapon spawns to make call outs easier. The only problem with you guys going in there playing those maps is it will probably not be an enjoyable situation due to a lot of established teams will play that or the skill level that comes with that. Since the mrs. is relatively new to this, it would probably just really frustrate her, getting team shot 80% of the time. Not to mention limited hiding areas and longer sight lines.

I would love to help you guys out, but the time you guys are on, we are generally sitting down for diner or we are helping the minions with homework. I am in Socal, so the time difference hurts  us getting together.

You can use this link showing common callouts on most maps. But to be honest that is super detailed and contain a lot more callouts that I have heard in games. But they do have the most common callouts I have heard in games overall.
