The Halo Bulletin 2-20-13

Quote:
Title Update… Update?

The next Halo 4 Title Update is slated to go live sometime this week. While we’d love to give you the specific date and time you’ll be prompted to download this update, unfortunately we’re only given an ambiguous window in which it will release, not a hard date. So you’ll know as soon as we know… or something like that, anyway.

While this update tackles a significant amount of bugs, glitches and issues we’re happy to soon call resolved, there’s more balancing to be done and more matters of contention to address, and we are actively working with the Halo 4 game team to investigate the feasibility of additional fixes. For now, here is a breakdown of what will be included in this particular title update.

Gameplay

• Reduced the range of the Boltshot’s damage scaling over distance. The previous effective range for 1-hit kills was around 20-25'. The range has been reduced to 15'.
• Fixed an issue where modified loadouts were not being saved correctly.
• Fixed an issue where attempting to sprint while crouching using “hold to crouch” would cause players to be unable to shoot for 1-1.5 seconds.
• Fixed an issue where some players were not able to get into matches on new map/game variants after playlist updates.
• Fixed a DLC-related Join-in-Progress issue that kicked players back to the title screen.
• Fixed various issues regarding glitched Autosentry deployment.
• Fixed an issue where one player per session was unable to stay scoped with the Flagnum.
• Fixed an issue where clients playing multi-round matches were not propelled by Man Cannons after the first round on Wreckage.
• Fixed an issue for players who had licensed content for the specialization offer, and had the free Map Pack content, but did not have the Map Pass or Map Pack license by displaying a new error message: “You have Map Pack content that requires a license. Please purchase the War Games Map Pass, purchase the Map Pack individually, or delete the Map Pack content from your console.”

Vehicles

• Fixed issues with friendly fire against vehicles. If FF is disabled, damage/EMPs from friendly sources will no longer damage vehicles that are fully controlled by your team.
• Fixed an issue with where the Wraith secondary turret became disabled when shot with a Plasma Pistol. The feature has been updated to be consistent with previous Halo titles.
• Fixed a Mantis functionality exploit that allowed pilots to survive planted grenades.

Specific Game Modes

• Friendly fire turned off in Flood to prevent exploits.
• Fixed Flood character models to allow for Warthog and Mongoose use.
• Fixed an inconsistency with King of the Hill deathcam.
• Fixed an issue where the Grifball would get stuck in geometry and never respawn.
• Fixed the issue for Extraction where players did not regain full control of their character for extended periods of time after interacting with a site.
• Fixed multiple Extraction scoring issues, including an overtime fix that ensures that a victory will not be awarded to a team who is controlling the go-ahead extraction point when the game ends.

Custom Games

• Fixed an issue that did not allow players to create respawn timers or disable instant respawn in custom games.
• Fixed an issue on Shatter where players couldn’t start a custom Dominion game.
• Fixed an issue where the Ordnance game options reset when scrolling up or down in custom games.
• Fixed an issue where custom game descriptions did not appear in the “Settings” preview screen.
• Fixed inconsistencies and bugs in the final death cam for custom games.

Spartan Ops

• Fixed an issue where the “Dedicated to Crimson” Achievement could not be unlocked.
• Fixed an issue where players in Spartan Ops Episode 6 Mission 1 were able to look around before the vignette.

Miscellaneous

• Fixed a selection of issues where theater clips were missing map-specific audio, including ambient noise and announcer voice.
• Fixed File Share preview images for films and map variants.
• Fixed issues with in-game translations.
• Fixed title screen camera clipping.
• Fixed an issue with Forge pieces and the shadows they create.
• Fixed aliasing split screen HUD issues.
• Fixed an issue where some saved films of Forge games featured no Forge lighting.
• Fixed incorrect “change description” text in File Browser.
• Fixed assorted crashes.

Wow, that's a lot of "fixes".

Apparently more weapon sandbox balancing will come at a later date. Seems like there's always "more to come".

Yeah, I was under the impression that this was going to clear some of that up.  I suppose Throwdown "fixed" some of the balance issues by having BR starts.

I'm curious. Do you vote for Deluxe?

Not if I can help it.  I prefer the non-Deluxe variants, but I can deal with Deluxe.

I was wondering because there seems to be this BR/DMR battle going on. The competitive communities are starting to eat their own, again.

Yep.

I vote deluxe sometimes, but if that is selected I will usually pick DMR almost always. Picking anything else puts you at a disadvantage. Hopefully they will adjust that and take out DMR as a load out.

I thought the whole point of Deluxe was to include the DMR? Isn't it all part of the Walshy/Pro recommendations?

Yes and no.  I see the value in the DMR.  Hell, I use it exclusively before Throwdown/the current settings.  Battle Rifle does bring the game in closer, though.  DMR is clearly the best starting weapon, and the others aren't balanced enough to make them very viable, save the BR in closer situations.

I do not recommend my method. Old n Achy has good gear. I used a Canon S20 still camera on a tripod, in front of a 50" Plasma TV. I forgot to turn off the automatic focus. Strangely, the focus management made it seem more real to me. I should investigate if I can dump the raw TV signal to my camera.

The two that I can speak to are the Elgato Game Capture HD and the Hauppauge PVR 2, both available on Amazon in the $150 - $160 range.  They feature HDMI hookups and both can be set up to do live streaming to Twitch.TV .

I am using the Elgato now for capture and streaming because the Elgato will stream my voice as well as other players (still tinkering with volume levels).

Both require 3rd party video editing software if you want to "spruce" up a video, but straight capture is fine in both and can be as high as 1080P resolution.

Biggest issue is system requirements.  I recommend looking at the product descriptions for each to see what kind of processing, memory, and graphics "horsepower" is required.

BTW Deep, I was thinking that if you could save off film(s) of your H4 version, put in file share, and give me some direction on splicing/titling, etc. I might be able to put the promo video together for you.  I am looking at getting Sony's Movie Studio 12 Platinum Suite which has canned music included so some audio enhancement might be possible as well.

The Elgato Hd and Hauppauge HD PVR gaming edition are two of the more popular methods of doing it. These models both take hdmi in as well. If you are not using HDMI, the Haup. also makes a pvr that takes component.

My conspiracy theory on that is that MS will announce you will be able to record and publish your game play on the Next xbox. Just like Sony announced. So they did not want to put time/money/effort into that function. Since they obviously have shown they don't/can't/won't bring over everthing Bungie did in previous titles.

I was hoping the TU would give the BR a little more advantage at close range (maybe 5-10% increase) while maintaing the DMR's advantage at long range.  That would make weapon/loadout choice a little more interesting.

Well, you also have to account for the Carbine and Light rifle in that mix.  I think the DMR needs a little less aim magnetism at range.  The BR could pretty much stay where it is, the Light rifle could fire a hair faster, and the Carbine might stay put.

This is the reason sandboxes don't get changed much. Fans think it's all easy street for the developer but it isn't. Sustain teams are said to be quite small while the rest of the development team are working on the next game.

343i is going to be tough to push around on some issues. They have to be.

Some fans will be pissed off no matter what they do.

Oh, no doubt.  It was a lot easier to balance if you have only the DMR or BR as your weapon, but having all 4 primary rifles playing around certainly would take some testing and tinkering.  Oh, if only they were doing that after they released it, maybe we'd see some balance issues updated in this upcoming TU, especially because that was one of the big questions even coming into release, was how they were all going to play together.

Oh well.  Another "trust us".

I agree 100% here nothing gets me going on a raging cursing tirade than when I get killed and wonder how the F#$@ did that C*&^suK3* shoot me I ducked behind cover and then watch on dead cam as the last 2 shots they fired, I wasnt even on their screen let alone reticle!

The way the sandbox is now I never use the BR.  DMR mid to long range work AR for close spray and bash.  Which is funny the good players (MUST be why I SUCK) love the BR though.

That has as much to do with latency as it does with magnetism. At least when concerning kill cams you can't believe anything you see on the screen.

Yup. Thanks for the offer. I may be able to give you a properly lit/shadowed game clip after the TU. Until then you'd have to fly the camera for me and that is the sort of personal touch I prefer to do myself. The contest closes March 1st and I wanted to get the submission in with time to spare for hiccups. If, with help, I can come up with an even better film before then I may do that. :)

Deep, I don't think that update was the TU.  The boltshot seems still too powerful and as someone pointed out to me, normally there is a splash screen when you first log in that says the TU is live.  We didn't get that.

I did notice Majestic achievements were up, so I'm wondering if the update had to do with that.
