Amen. I love the format, and wondered if they could take it out of the ancient world. Should be awesome.

Over the past several titles, Assassin's Creed has earned a spot on my 'Day One Buy' list.  This one won't be an exception by any means...

Gotta tell you that this one feels "seperated" from the series. I don't know what it is but I just can't get into Conner. Ezio's character and mettle was built over 3 games, so with that his character felt more personal and you sympathized with him. Ac3 seems like they started with one game and had so many ideas at the end it got lost in itself... not to mention that characters you've never heard of get thrown in out of nowhere (Achiles). AC built the foundation,  I loved AC2 & Brotherhood but Revalations started the downward trend for this franchise and AC3 didn't do it any justice unfortunately. Not saying it's not worth playing, I'm just saying it's a step backwards from what a great series Ubi Montreal had done before.

The setting is about the only thing Assassins Creed 3 had going for it.  Otherwise the game was monkey shit.  YOu have to play 6-8 hours just to get out of the 'tutorial' section of the game and get to what the game is expected to be.  But even then, it's an unfocused mess of mini games and irrelevant tasks.  The ever so hyped running thru buildings thing is nothing more than a gimmick, even if you manage to find a building you can run thru it's scripted / automated when you run thru it.  Climbing trees was also heavily hyped and only mildly useful, each tree that was a view point to sync with was the exact same tree in different locations.  Horses are useless unless you're on roads now too, don't try and ride them off-road you're faster on foot.

The hunting / animals/ forest environments were well done, i did the hunting 'club' challengs because it was the new thing in this game.  But honestly, is this a Cabelas game or freak'in assassins creed?!    The ship fighting was pretty well done visually but the fighting itself was really just kind of meh.  Once you upgrade your ship you smash everything.  But again...  is this what we expect out of an assassins creed game?

It borrows some of theo ther tasks introduced from past games like recruiting/training and using assassins except they limit you to using them only in the cities.  You can raid forts, enhance your little village, trade but none of this stuff really feels connected or relivant to the game's core.  It feels more like 'the game's too short, lets throw some random shit into the game to occupy them'.

This game drastically needs to be burned to the ground and rebuilt from the foundation.  They need to get back to the game's core, which to me  is assassination contracts, gathering intel, assassinating guys and planning your escape.  The game's just got to much nonsense added to it now at the expense of the core theme of the game in my opinion.  Honestly i'd love it if they throw out all this animus nonsesne too.

Anyway i played AC3, I finished it but for the most part, i did not enjoy this game.

If it wasn't for the concept and historical setting I would not be as devoted to this series as I am.   I was extremely hyped for this game and based on previews and podcasts for industry writers I felt that Ubisoft really had something here.  The reality is that the gameplay issues that bugged me about all the games in the series were not fixed and may have gotten worse.  My biggest beefs are as follows....

No danger to the player character at all.  You can fight 50 enemies in a row and with nothing but a counter kill you are a unstoppable killing machine.

Stealth is not a factor in your planning nor execution of your mission.   There is no reason to worry about killing your target unseen other then if the mission parameter's require it.

Side missions and Homestead did not effect the core game with increased abilities and gameplay.  Assassins guild skills and missions were useless.

Sad to say Tank I agree with you completely when it comes to your beef with the game.  The fact remains that the whole series could use a new perspective and a focus on what being a Assassin is about.   Fact remains though that when Part 4 or the next side story/game is released I will purchase day one.  Simply because for the first 10 hours or so it's still cool as shit to play.

Does anyone have the soundtrack for this? I'm trying to find the name of the song that plays when you get into a fight in the frontier. Kinda sounds like something from Pirates of the Carribbean swordfighting bits.

I enjoyed the game. I agree that the start was to long. Took way to long to feel like an AC game. After I finished the game I was left feeling ok what now? In the other ones I had some missions to do, build up Rome, weapons, etc.... In 3 I never even used any other weapons besides the stock ones. This was becasue of the homestead mission that was glitched (hammer.) I didn't touch the mulit player becasue I didn't care for it in brotherhood. I do look forward to where the series might go.
