So I finally watched "Senna"
Just wow. It was a great story as well as showing awe-inspiring, heart-pounding race footage and it actually got me interested in F1 racing, something I never followed before. If you havent seen this documentary and you're a motorsports enthusiast, you need to watch it. Hell, I even got my Mom to watch it and all she is interested in is NASCAR.
You need to watch Grand Prix - The Killer Years, thats an eye opener too!
Easily found on the web, a BBC doc if I remember.
Been watching F1 since Senna's times and I truly beleive they currently have the best product they have ever had (watching todays race as I type). Parcells even enjoyed the "Senna times" where one or two passes in a race was exciting but with the rule changes they've adopted over the past 4-5 years has enabled numerous passes throughout the field, it's really fantastic.
The only semi-recent rule change I'm not liking is starting with a full tank. Allowing different fuel loads would add one more layer of strategy to an otherwise already strategic system but I shouldn't condone safety now should I? The less improved tyres (degrade quicker) the FIA forced Perelli to make have worked out extremely well from an entertainment perspective.
Note to my self: watch Senna and Grand Prix - The Killer Years.
+1 on the killer years. I watched it last week on BBC Iplayer.
They had some big balls back then!!
Especially at the ring!
Love the footage of Senna driving an NSX around Suzuka, "heel-and-toeing" perfectly while wearing a nice comfy pair of loafers! (also found on YouTube - search "senna nsx Suzuka").
pretty sad story. its amazing how far safety has come in F1. Its a shame he didn't take up his buddy the medical director on hanging it up and going fishing that day.
It is a shame but at least his buddy worked to get F1 as safe as it is today to prevent something like that from ever happening again. Unfortunately in history it often takes tragedy to produce change.
