Shared on Thu, 09/15/2011 - 08:37Rant time! I know that the concept of me ranting will shock many of you, since I never...oh wait, yes I do. Nevermind.
Not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things but its something I need to get off my chest in some form. And I know a lot of you have experienced this same source of aggravation so you can relate. People who go to the gym and get on a station and then monopolize it for 20 minutes. You all suck. I know that everyone has their own program, and everyone works out at a pace that suits them. Thats cool, I'm right there with you. But if you get on a machine and sit there and stare at the fucking wall for 10 minutes not doing a single rep? You suck. Or if you sit there talking to your cutesy-pie wife who is also monopolizing the station next to you while not working out (and yes I am thinking of a specific example lol) you suck even worse.
And you know who these people are. You identify them and what they're doing as soon as you walk in and see them, or as soon as you see them walking in. Today was leg day and since I can't walk so well after my workout I do my 30 on the treadmill prior to lifting when I do legs. As I was in the last 5 minutes of cardio I saw them walk in, and the first thing I thought was "Fuck, I hope they're not doing legs today". And of course they were. I think they do legs 3 times a week. Whatever. And I almost beat them to the seated leg curl machine (which fucking rocks if you have a bad back) but they hit it as I was finishing my last set of what I was doing before I moved on to hamstrings. So I moved on to the last part of my leg workout which is calves. I completed 10 sets of 2 different movements and still had to wait a minute for them to get off the damn machine so I could finish my workout.
There's other examples too of course, and like I said I know if any of you have spent any time in a gym at all you can relate to this completely. There's a couple of other guys that work out together and I have had to completely alter my routine for the day to get around them on days I was working the same body parts they were. And the worst part is they were already at it when I got there and still lifting when I finished my 30 minutes on the treadmill after my lifting. Newsflash boys: if you spend more than an hour lifting you're wasting your time. And mine, since I have the misfortune of my split aligning with your's.
But to balance this out, most people are pretty cool and efficient with their workouts and are pretty accomodating if you ask to work in. I always let folks work in with me when they ask, and if I butt in on someone else I always make sure to adjust the machine positions or weights back to where they had them. And one thing I do like about where I work out is that everyone I've talked to and asked questions regarding something they were doing in their workout have been very helpful. Ok, I feel a little better now. :)
