Shoot'em in the back now...

So day 6 of the mid-life crisis (also known as me taking up the bass again) is going well.  I'm up to a whopping 2 songs I know for sure I can play all the way through now without embarrassing myself, the newest addition being Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones.  Yeah, yeah...I know its only 3 notes, but still!  I'm working on several other songs right now, some I played 15 years ago and some I never did.  I'm trying to get a decent variety of music in there, I don't want to just play metal.  I've got some rock, some metal, some Texas rock in the hopper...I'll probably work on some Beach Boys, Floyd, and other stuff too as I go.

Right now the biggest obstacle for me is my right hand.  I need to keep building strength and stamina, which of course is just a matter of time.

So anyway, the 2 songs I could actually get with other people and play without having the power cut to my amp are Rock You Like A Hurricane and Blitzkrieg Bop.  I have The Trooper down as well, but I don't have the stamina in the right hand to get the speed of the song down yet so I just play it about half speed and eventually it will get there again.  I think I've mentioned that my drummer buddy has a guitarist and singer lined up already, plus one of my bosses at work is up for a jam whenever.  I'm looking forward to this quite a bit, I've never played with an actual band before (fear of performing in front of others) so this should be exciting.

I also changed my half day vacation tomorrow to a full day, so I'm off until Tuesday.  Thats a lot of fun time available in there.  My fingers have already blistered and callouses are beginning to form so I'm well on my way!

For what its worth, some of the songs I'll be working on over the weekend:

Run to the Hills

Peace Sells

Black Dog

Sharp Dressed Man

For Whom the Bell Tolls

Some of those might be a little ambitious for week 1 but we'll see...several of those I used to play back in the day.  Whether I pick them up quickly or not really doesn't matter, its all a lot of fun.  I know there's going to be some Southern rock these guys want to play, so I'll be working on some Skynyrd and Molly Hatchet and probably some Judas Priest and Black Sabbath.  I believe those were 2 groups everyone agreed they want to cover.

So other songs I'll be working on in the near future:

Breaking the Law

Die Dead Enough

Flirting With Disaster

Gimme 3 Steps

War Pigs

...and whatever else sounds good.  Maybe some Floyd like I mentioned, we'll see how everything else goes.  I'd like to be able to pick up a couple songs this weekend, and of course there's lots of Maiden to play.  :)
