Shared on Mon, 05/09/2011 - 06:21The velcro/tape idea actually would have worked if not for one issue: space. The tv now sits out a full foot further (I <3 alliteration!...make that a full fucking foot further!) from the wall than the old set. Its also exactly 1" thick which is leading to some balance concerns, but pretty sure that could be shored up with a bit of tape. The main issue with that setup is the space, as I have just about 7' of play space with the kinect on top of the set.
That's going to leave me with one option, and thats wall mounting the kinect. Doing a little measuring and estimating tells me that I will have to place the mount @ 7' off the ground, angled slightly down. The real challenge will come in securing the mount with 18" of space to work my fat ass into. :) But I will succeed! Already obtained my landlord's permission to wall mount the tv before deciding not to, so I'm sure he won't mind a couple little anchors in the wall instead.
I hope everyone had a great mother's day yesterday, be it enjoying the pampering you were entitled to or enjoying the act of pampering the special mom(s) in your life; mother, wife, gf...however things have panned out for you. My mom was up in Wisconsin for the weekend so I had to raincheck lunch with her til this week. Also getting together with my old boss this week for lunch as well. I talk with him on the phone once or twice a week but this will be the first time we've gotten together since he was walked out last November. It will also be kind of cool because last time he saw me I was 60lbs heavier.
Alrighty, video time. The rotation being set now, welcome to Maiden Monday! I'm thinking we'll do a "best of times, worst of times" spin on this. Back in 1993 Bruce Dickinson left the group. There were various reasons given by both Bruce and the band, but personally I think it can be best summed up by saying he developed LSD - Lead Singer's Disease. Hey, happens to the best of them. The ultimate departure was not amicable by any means as he decided to leave the band mid-tour, and ultimately it was agreed to finish the tour as a sort of "farewell". Although the tour was completed as planned, the feeling within the rest of the band was that Bruce tanked the performance at all but the high profile gigs when loads of press were present in those pre-internet days. Bruce denied this of course, and I wasn't there so I couldn't tell you what really happened.
After a search that lasted the better part of a year the band narrowed it down to 2 candidates: Blaze Bayley and Dougie White. Yeah, oops. But on the bright side if they had hired White then Blaze sucking so horribly wouldn't have paved the way for Bruce to return to the band 6 years later. Also returning to the fold in '99 with Bruce was Adrian Smith on guitar. Adrian had left the band in early '90 and had been playing with Bruce on Bruce's solo material (which was excellent btw), his return now gave Maiden a 3 guitar lineup.
So the best of times, the worst of times. Lets start with the worst of times. The following is Blaze Bayley performing The Trooper. To be at least a little fair the story behind this atrocity was that someone in the crowd had spit on Blaze (and possibly Steve) so Blaze was a bit off his game. A bit. Pffft, this is possibly the worst version of this classic song you will ever hear. FYI, lots of bad words screamed here @ 3:36 so possibly NSFW there:

If you notice, Nicko starts to go right into Running Free when Blaze starts his little temper tantrum and quickly stops.
And this is how The Trooper should sound, as sung by Bruce Dickinson:
