Brothers and their fathers joining hands and make a chain

Btw, what happened to our blog ratings?  I see the thumb icons on other blogs so I assume its still there, I just don't see a rating.  I miss getting a -3 within 20 seconds of posting a blog.

In other news, I broke down and bought a PS3.  The manager at my Gamestop laughed at me, and my son told me I was no longer his father.  2 of my friends have threatened to never talk to me again.  My cat unleashed a furball.  I am not making any of that up heh.  So I felt all dirty anyway about adding to Sony's sales figures so their delusional, arrogant management could point to another unit sold and puff their chests about what a great system they have but I did it anyway.  I bought myself a nice big 1080p Toshiba set a few months back so I figured why not, if nothing else its a cheap blu-ray player.

Aaaaand...thats about all I will use it for.  What a fucking mess this system is.  The user interface is a joke, you can't find shit.  I bought a total of 5 games (it was a struggle to even find that many games I wanted for it), with 3 of them being used.  I put in the first used game and was treated to a lengthy install.  Great, I want to wait to play a game.  Who doesn't?  The controllers feel like happy meal toys that will break at any second, and nice job not having rechargable batteries.  Yeah, love the "hook the wireless controller to your system thereby negating the point of a wireless controller" feature Sony thought of.  I finally found the demos and downloaded Heavy Rain and, aside from the painfully long download time (about 3x longer than a 1.3g d/l on the 360 for me) I couldn't find the damn thing to play it.  The only bright spot I found was that I could buy FF7 for $10.  Then I read that only the profile that purchased it could play it, so there's no point in spending that money if my son can't play games I buy as well.

What's really sad is that this system is over 3 years old and the interface is still this bad.  If Sony didn't make killer television sets they'd be done right now.  How people can actually get their gaming fix from this mess is beyond me.

You suck, Sony.  May you suffer in the pits of bankruptcy and financial ruin very soon.

And to every Sony fanboy (on this site and others) who ever told me about anything about the PS3 being as good as or superior to the 360, you can suck one of my nuts.  I'll even let you choose which one.

So I guess now I go out and buy some blu-ray movies or something.  I guess for the rest of the weekend I can test out the upconverting abilities on it for regular dvds and at least see how it plays those.  After spending the better part of today playing games on it that's all I have the will to do right now.

Don't get your hopes up too high Boss. The BD movies do look and sound awesome, but using the controller for it sucks. I got sick of it after a few months and got a Sony BD player. Now my Harmony One can control everything again. That reminds me, I have Zombie land I need to watch.

Oh Fish, the humanity. I was actually wondering if there was a standalone dvd remote for the PS3 because I have indeed noticed the controller makes for a poor remote. It makes for a poor controller too, but I covered that already. ;) I think its fair to say, based on my experiences so far yesterday and even today, that I was right all along to not buy this system. And I also think its fair to say that those who sing the praises of this console (especially over the 360) are delusional fanboys who are either trying to justify their poor purchase choice or are just attached too firmly to the Sony coporate nipple.

Every time I consider buying a PS3, I see the stack of games that I have for the 360 that I haven't played or finished or spent enough time with. That's all the reason I need not to get one. I'm sure there are some great gaming experiences to be had with it, but I just don't have the time.

I've been on the fence about getting a PS3, since there are a few exclusives that they do have that I'm interested in. there is a stand alone DVD remote for the PS3, also there is a controller out for it now that does resemble the 360 controller, that's why I'm interested in getting one, I can't stand the feel of the traditional PS controllers. I believe I saw a link in the PS3 hardware forum.

The PS3 has a vastly untapped potential. It definitely has the hardware and the interface is not that bad when you get used to it (the TVs, DVD/BD and surround sounds are all the same) it would be only a matter of personal preference if not for: 1. "Blue-tooth only" 2. Allowing developers to ruin the games. When the same game on PS3 cannot be configured the same way as the 360 version and is only in 720 not 1081p like 360, people will not be as willing to adjust or get used to the small differences. I'm keeping mine, hoping Sony will get a clue some day and use the superior hardware to its full potential and stop allowing substandard games.

I'm sure there is potential. I've always referred to the PS3 as the "swiss army knife" of gaming, and now that I've sat here and spent about 14 hours trying to leaf through everything I see I was right. I still can't get over what a mess the interface is. All I have heard from Sony loyalists, including on this site, was how terrific the PS3 was and how superior it was, blah yada blah. The truth of the matter is: not even. Everything about the 360 is intuitive. Everything I have seen about the PS3 so far is counter-inuitive. I'm keeping mine too. I have no choice heh. Thanks for the tip on the remote, Noch.
