Shared on Mon, 09/11/2006 - 06:53For the second time in the last 2 months, my family has had to endure another passing away of a close family member. My Grandfather (mom's dad) James Davis, passed away yesterday at the age of 95. It was somewhat expected, but nevertheless, hard to take. I am very close with my family, both sides. As a child, we never qent on the "family" vacations to theme parks or the beach. My parents had 2 weeks of vacation a year, we spent one of those weeks in Springfield, MO. for Thanksgiving, with my dad's parents. The other week we spent in San Angelo, TX. for Christmas, with my mom's parents. So, family holds a special place with me, as it does with a lot of you. It was my Grandfather who started me playing golf, for which I am still not any better than I was almost 20 years ago. He was a VERY honorable man. Treated his wife with the utmost respect and loved his children more than life itself. Exemplified by example when, during the depression era, got out of a friends car and walked the last 7 miles home one evening after his friend made the remark of "I told my sons they needed to sow their wild oats with as many girls as the can." GRandfather made him stop the car and told him his sons better not try that on his girls, then got out and walked. I did not know this story until about a month ago when my mom told me. I will miss him very much.
