I have been asked to coach an 7-8 year old all-star baseball team for our town. This year, they have decided to enter a team in the Little League tournament. The town has never sent a team before for this age group. Basically there are four teams in our distict. We win three games, we go to the state tournament. Sort of a big deal. Not sure who watches the Little League World Series but back in 2001, a player by the name of Danny Almonte pitched his Bronx team to a third place finish. The problem was, Danny was too old. They had lied about his age. Fast forward to today, Little League now has a book you must fill out. You must have each players original birth certificate and three proofs of residency. The proofs of residency must be dated before February 1, 2011. Sounds simple enough right? Out of twelve players that I kept, four of them could follow directions. I have spent all week chasing people down trying to get all this information together. One lady I had to meet with four times before she got it right. Are people really that stupid or am I being too hard on society?
