Well, I have had the worst weekend as far as vehicles go....Saturday while I was dealing with my grandfather and all that stuff, my car was not cooperating, wouldn't start up once and had to have it jumped at my sisters house.  Saturday night when I wanted to go get some margarita stuff to help out my nerves, my car wouldn't start at all.  No interior lights, no turning over, no NOTHING!!  I still haven't gotten it running.

So today I take the man's car to go to work.  He doesn't know exactly how much gas he has because the fuel gauge doesn't work right, but he had filled it up, drove some then put another $20 in it...total miles driven 320.  He gets @ 14 miles per gallon in the gas guzzler, and had put in roughly 26 gallons in it for the miles driven.  Should have been able to go approximately 364 miles.  NOPE!!  I get 3 miles from the house on my way to work this morning and the car dies on me.  ON THE FUCKING HIGHWAY!!  I had intended upon putting another $20 in it on my way home from work today because I didn't want to be late for work.  I then have to walk 3 FUCKING MILES back to my house because no one will stop for anyone around here.  Everyone justs averts their eyes because they can't be bothered to stop to help anyone....people suck!  I am soooo fucking sick of shit right now...AAARRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Anyone know anything about cars?  I don't know what the fuck my cars problem is....it has a battery that is only 6 months old in it and I don't know what to do with it.

I really just want to sit down and scream!!!

Durty, even if it is your alternator, chances are a cheap fix can be done. What you would need are new brushes. Those are the parts that connect to the spinning shaft(I said shaft in a Durty blog! ), to the other parts to direct the energy being produced. When they died on my '89 Mustang, a new alternator was about $150, new brushes were under three bucks. Easy to install also with very basic tools. But it sounds like something else might be wrong to me. You might want to check all of the connections to the battery, and alternator, and make sure that they are nice and tight!

well I don't know much about cars really.. but had similar problems in the past. Either the battery is no good which is a nice and easy fix or... the alternater is screwed. Thats what recharges the battery while driving. So you can start the car later among other things.

I have no idea, but you have my sympathies for the crappy way your week has started. I hope it gets better.

Yeah, either the alternator went bad and is not charging or your new battery went bad which is possible. If you can get it jump started and happen to have a DC Volt meter put the leads on the battery, you should have a reading of around 14 volts. If it is below that then your alternator is most likely not charging. If it is 14 volts or more, your battery is most likely the problem.

If none of your lights came on, you are getting no juice. That indicates either the battery is completely drained or there is a bad connection. If the alternator is bad your battery could be dead, but even when the battery is too low to start the car interior lights usually come on. I would take the battery cable off of the battery terminals and clean them thoroughly. Sometimes corrosion gets in the wire strands where the cable end clamps onto the battery. If you can get it jumped off any Advance Auto or other large auto parts store will check your battery and alternator for free. pH

To me it sounds like a bad connection to the terminals like Parrothead said. My car had this exact same problem a few weeks ago. If it was the alternator the car would still be able to be jumped as long as you didnt have a dead cell in your battery
