Tron console update 1-28-11

so finally got my artwork out to my sticker guy, so now I'm at the mercy of his plotter... as soon as I get the vinyl from him I'll start the process of masking and painting... thats gonna be the fun part. So I had a lot of setbacks this week, like the lead wires just fell off of my EL sheet, The transformer to my neon tube blew, and I decided to completly restart my recognizer, cause I just wasnt happy with the way it was turning out. But I've had a lot of successes.

Its time to make a stand...

Well the GOW console I did last year had an awsome stand, I was really proud of it, unfortunatly it puts me in the possition of having to outdo myself this year.this stand is cooled via laptop cooling pad, and lighted. I've gotten a good design for it, and am really happy with how it turned out. The inspiration came from the palm rest of an alienware laptop, that really defines the look of the stand. I have a tinted sheet of acryllic that I'm going to cut to go over the top of the stand, it will be painted black except for the designs, thats where the light will shine through.

Tron update 1-11-11

Its been a few weeks so time for an update. First off I have the side panels roughed out... and ready for the hours and hours of sanding to clean up the lines and get them nice and sharp. To make the side panels I'm using a material called kydex, its primaraly used in holster and sheath production. It will alow me to create a 3D shape and really capturing the feal of the tron costume. First I made a form out of particle board and melamine. then heated the kydex put it over my form and into a press.

Post movie update...

Ok so I saw Tron @the 3D IMAX last fri. and I was blown away. the critics can suck it... I could watch that movie over and over... anyway unexpectedly viewing the movie solved several problems for me. The first is the glow around the outside of the Identity Disc. wile it is activated it gives off a swirling glow Ive experimented with el wire, neon tubes, led's... even the chasing EL... nothing captured the effect that I needed. Well the movie solved the problem for me.

Week of fail...

in my buisness there are always setbacks... Everything is custom made and or trying to fit things that where never intended to fit into an xbox go simply because it will look cool... One of my problems is China. I only buy from china when I absolutly have to and I have little or no other choice (I try to get all my parts through ebay as well just because not only am I protected through ebay, but paypal as well) anyway China is hit or miss, sometimes I get lucky and sometimes what I get is so far from what I needed.
