Pet Peeves With Game Stat Tracking

Generally speaking, I love the Xbox 360 Live component and the 360's achievement system.  I know we've all heard it hundreds of times before, but although it's a great system, it could be better.  One of my biggest gripes with the system is something that could very easily be remedied - the ability to view all of the statistics that a game gathers for it's achievement system.  I suppose this isn't a complaint about Live or the achievement system itself (they're not really to blame for this), but how game developers hide the statistics from you.

Christmas Break Begins At Noon!

I work for an Engineering Consulting firm.  Exciting, I know.  Anyway, traditionally our type of business gets kinda slow in December, primarily because most of our clients have spent all of their money for the year and are waiting for January to roll back around.  That being the case, I try to save up some vacation and comp time for the end of the year.  So, at noon today (I usually only work half days on Fridays) I'm blowin' out of this joint like a bat out of hell.  My co-workers won't have to see my mug again (nor will I have to see theirs) until January 2nd.

The Weather and Other Random Musings

Man, I just realized that I haven't touched my blog in about 2-1/2 months.  At that time I was all gung-ho about it, and thought I'd at least download to it once a week.  Oh, well - I'm just lazy I guess.

EXTREME COMBO!!!

I posted earlier about my fascination with Power Metal/Purveyors of Cheese/10,000 Fingered Wunderkinds Dragonforce. Evidentally, these guys also enjoy another form of "bad" entertainment - videogames. This excerpt from their music video "Operation Ground and Pound" shows them at their finest - a "Mortal Kombat"-like guitar solo duel filled with fancy fretwork, bad background CGI, combos, and lightening attacks. Hell, the only thing that could make this any better is a Chuck Norris cameo.

This Week's Commute Playlist - 9/29 Edition

When I'm in town, I have about a 30 minute commute from the sticks where I live into the city where I work.  While driving to work, I pretty much never listen to the radio.  If there's anything that I'm a bigger fan of than videogames, it's music.  My office at home has frighteningly high stacks of CDs, records, and tapes that I've aquired over the years.  In addition to the easily couple thousand CDs I own, I have a couple 120GB hard drives filled with digital music that I've aquired over the years from eMusic, Audiolunchbox, AllofMp3, and other various other sources.  So, I have plenty to

Zuma for the iPod - It Ain't That Bad...

I got one of those newfangled 5th generation iPods around November of last year.  I know that iPods are trendy and overpriced, but regardless, I've generally been pleased with it.  It's nice to drop some TV shows on it to watch during my lunch hour.

The Adventures of Lolo

I'm gonna make today my official "Look at my Kid Day".  Here’s my little girl, Lorelei. The nickname we’ve given her is Lolo, but she likes to refer to herself as “Yoyo”. Before she was born, I never would have guessed how fulfilling fatherhood could be. As many of you probably know, fatherhood changes you in ways both good and bad. You have the fulfillment of watching and encouraging your child to learn and grow, but at the expense of most of your freedom and free (game) time. It’s a tough compromise, but fatherhood is generally worth it.
