Shared on Thu, 06/15/2006 - 08:31Here it is, the first ladder match for Vexire Fortes and my first ladder match as well. We challenged Alpha last week in a underdog attempt to take the top of the ladder from them... OK, it was more for the honor of kicking off our ladder season versus the best, and having them kick our ass!
The half hour leading up to the match was a wreck! Despite me drilling the time on Live and in the forums my team thought it started an hour later than it was. Good thing they all wanted to get on early to go over strategy last minute. So after a quick warm-up I was pumped and anxious to get this going.
VF Pro Line up (Rampaging Red):
- Lithium4792 (fearless leadah/teadrink3r)
- iBEHOLDER (colorblind flagbearer)
- Laud Trevlin (Col. Crossfire)
- x 77 x (Diligent Slayer)
2o2p Alpha Team Line up (Big Bad Blue):
- x 2o2p F1R3 x
- x 2o2p gaara x
- x 2o2p clutch x
- x 2o2p Sharp x
Game One: CTF Midship, Close But No Cigar!
First I want to say that my team brought our A game. We did do our best despite the sweep by Alpha we got close to scoring more than 3 times. WE HAD THEIR FLAG IN OUR BASE!!! However, Alpha always seemed to have three guys there to make the last stretch a 10 yard fight. A couple of times, while tossing and grabbing (their flag ) one of them would come out of nowhere and catch that last toss.
Alpha loves that Carbine side. Im not too sure what went down on Pink side, but there was always plenty of action (and teabags) on Carb. I think our biggest mistake was underestimating that. When we grabbed thier flag we would all follow the carrier and push Pink side leaving at least one of them to spawn near enough or in Carb side to get in our base and take back thier flag.
Six total flag steals and three close but no cigar caps... Guess it really does only count in Horseshoes....
Game Two: Team Slayer Warlock, "Red Plat, no Yellow, wait, no Blue Base"
Thanks to Drost, SoupNazzi, Malice, and Speedbmp for helping us out on this one! If it werent for them we would have done way worse than that. When I first made the challenge to Alpha I thought I might out smart them and get to pick all my maps. Knowing that they are MLG fanboys I thought I might pick CTF Midship and Team Ball Lockout leaving them to pick the Slayer and I was 90% sure that they would pick Sanctuary (one of VFs best Slayer maps)... Nope they pick Warlock... FUCK!!! Thats VFs worst Slayer map... So much for outsmarting the Pros...
The game was very fast paced and seemed to be over before it started. We kept it close in the begining but lost any hope once Alpha put some one up in Center Top. Game over. Our team communitcated great and laid down some cross fire, but Alpha was doing some unanticipated formations. Like three on top of one Platform with one in Top Center. Or two in a base, one on Top Center and F1R3 BXRing us till we scream!
Game Three: Team Ball Lockout, Lith misses five jumps and we need to work on Team Ball
This game was more relaxed for us since we already lost our shirts in the first two. I apologize to my team for not practicing this type in the weeks leading up to this match. For not having a viable strategy to fall on we did decent and again Alpha made it a quick game. They owned the Grav Lift for more than half the game. I think that kinda threw us off kilter and we didnt know how to counter that. For the other half they whored the Snipe Tower and I missed five jumps while trying to storm the castle...
Although the numbers dont really reflect it, I feel my team preformed really well and gave Alpha somewhat of a decent challenge. I also walked away with a greater sense of selfworth Halo-wise, we toughed it out against the best of the Ladder and didnt walk away whimpering and limping.
Great job Alpha! It was a great experience to see a well organized team execute and work together to get the job done. I hope that we gave you at least a little greif and we hope that you also had a good a time as we did.
Til next time Alpha! We will have our revenge!!! Bwa-Ah-Ah-Ah!!! Wait, wrong movie...
GOOD GAME!!1!
