So growing up I was never a fan of February. It's the shortest month but always seems to be the coldest and about 2 weeks longer than it needs to be. Then there was Valentine's day. The week leading up to it always lead to fights about cards. Ten to twelve year old me did not want to make cards for my guy friends (as that was just weird!) and there was no way in hell I wanted to make any for the girls in my class (they might think I like them but what if I do and they don’t like me? Or worse I don’t like them and they think I do!?). We all know it only gets worse as you progress through your teen years and even beyond. Yeah February sucks.
I am still not a fan of all this lovey dovey stuff but I’m glad I am older and only have to worry about Mrs. Soup and the Souplets now. Better yet, this February seems to be full of Monsters, Zombies, Robots, Aliens, elves and general shooty, killy, blowy uppy games! Let’s see what this week has in store to help us persevere through this horrid month of pink hearts and snow!

Turtle Rock Studios brought us the acclaimed Left for Dead series of co-op zombie survival games. Now they are upping the ante with Evolve. A 4 on 1 co-op shooter that I can say after playing the alpha and the beta has some of the most intense firefights I have ever been in. Whether playing as the monster and constantly having to run away to feed and evolve before the next fight, or as the hunters chasing the monster through the dense environments only to be pounced on from an unseen angle, Evolve is constantly exhilarating and unrelenting until the end. I just wish Evolve could have been couch co-op as well.

Already released on Xbox, gripgames (developers of The Impossible Game) puzzle adventure game UNMECHANICAL: Extended is coming to the PlayStation Network this week with exclusive new levels. This game reminds me a lot of Machinarium where you are a little robot solving puzzles to try and get somewhere. It also reminds me that I completely suck at puzzle games.

Link, Zelda, masks, adventure, puzzles. If you ever played the original on the N64 then it’s pretty much the same thing, just 3DS - ified. So 3D, touchscreen, gyroscopic features. This is another of the launch games for Nintendo’s “new” 3DS handheld.
