Eye-tracking Tech Goes AAA With Assassin’s Creed: Rogue

What most of us had written off as a last-gen blowoff entry in the Assassin’s Creed series just took a significant leap forward as it readies for a March 10th PC release.

Implementing software that works with the SteelSeries Sentry Eye Tracking System, the upcoming PC version of last year’s Assassin’s Creed entry for 360 and PS3 will allow players to control the focal point with their eyes.

While Ubisoft isn’t new to bringing weird tech gimmicks into their AC games (Previous entries dabbled in red/blue 3D view modes), this is the first instance of a major video game to use eye-tracking software as a method of camera control.

Players with Tobii’s Tech’s Sentry hardware will be able to target enemies, scan the area for clues and shift camera angles by looking around to different parts of the screen. In addition, the game will pause if the player looks away from the screen and resume when they look back.

Stockholm-based Tobii Tech plans to bundle PC versions of Rogue with the first 5,000 units they ship of the Sentry hardware which retails at $199.99.
