Back to PC for me! And making triple screen upgrades...

First, how to I get this group to appear in my "my forums" like 2old4forza?

Why? Not happy about the console racing space and both ms and Sony requiring RFID chips for wheels to work. And with a lot of Fanatec hardware already that's better than the 399 garbage they are peddling now, it's just a silly mess. Time to rerun to my roots...

So with a few Titan Blacks sitting on my shelf I thought I could repurpose one for sim games but need some advice on doing it efficiently. I'm looking for a cheap tripple screen stand that will straddle my chassis so I can get as close to a 179 degree setup as possible?

I'm just going to grab a few asus 23.6" screens but due to their size it's especially important to be as to put them as close to my head as possable.

Anyone with suggestions or that can direct me to a good source for options?

Pardon if this is posted in the wrong place... Feel free to move it.

Welcome back to the dark side!  laugh

I believe a couple of the guys are GBR (lots of current & former 2O4F guys) were using a free-standing monitor stand w/ multi-montior add-ons.  I'll see if I can find out more for you.

I didn't see a price clearly listed, but one of the guys is running the Sim Seats Triple Monitor Stand.  http://shop.sim-seats.com/Standalone-Monitor-Mount-SS-10-SAMM.htm

He's been using it for about a year and a half now with no issues.  I'll let you know more as I hear from the other guys.

Give me a shout if you're going to be on iRacing, my account is still active but I suck at Ovals, Track is where I enjoy it!

Thanks Shurb, I saw that stand and once I selected the triple monitor configuration it balooned in price :/ So I had a new idea and that was to make a set up that can easily transfer from the chassis to the work desk... At first I thought I could use a common desk for both and just slot the chassis in when I want to race but the hight of an office desk is too high...

I also decided to go with 27" monitors since they are dirt cheap right now: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ITORMDC/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UT...

And I bought this stand that I learned was recently redesigned to offer a higher degree of angle: http://shop.easymountlcd.com/Deluxe-Triple-Stand-Free-Standing-up-to-28-... and DAMIT the price dropped 25 dollars since I ordered it YESTERDAY!

Anyway, if I set up my chassis with a makeshift surface over my chassis and my work desk next to eachother I should have a pretty cool set up recycling everything from my work station including speakers...

I'll renew my iracing account after I get everything set up... I'm now debating on whether I hold out till closer to the holidays for sales and intel anouncing a new chip set or if I should just pull the trigger... Considering all 3 monitors are 600 and a high powered i5 box is only 600-800 (I already have a few titans and something new will be arriving fron Nvidia later this month but I don't know what it is yet)... so the only hold up is whether I want to try and save a few more bucks... I'm not sure that its worth missing out on the gaming between now and then.

Which sims are you running.  I'm (or will be shortly as the new seasons get underway) running rFactor & rFactor2 at GBR during the week (Wednesday evenings Pacific).  I'm also running w/ efnetsimracing on Sunday evenings.  Right now we are running a modern prototype/GT mod (modified version of Enduracers) but will be going back to the Historix mod this fall (both on rFactor).

Once I do a fresh install on my laptop (race server), I'm probably going to try to get something going Sunday mornings on rFactor again.  Just been super busy lately trying to get the motor finished up in the Corrado and getting the rest of the cars ready for sale & sold.

Trevor, i sent you a FR on iRacing.  Like you, I run a core i5 CPU (the 2500k) and it is buttery smooth on triple screens at 5760 X 1200, along with my 2 1/2 year old 4 GB 670 GPU.  I am hopelessly addicted to iRacing, but I still get my fair share of sim racing done on Forza 5 and Forza Horizon 2 with my TX wheel, as well as GT6 with the T500, triple screens and Obutto cockpit.  I moved my mancave to the garage and so now I have separate set ups for Xbox One and PC/PS3 sim racing.  It is working out very nicely.

Cool! I did make very good progress in iRacing and even got published by a spectator I didn't know was watching: https://m.facebook.com/groups/284582938340883?view=permalink&id=53649065...

But when I hit the "pay wall" I sorta backed off, but iRacing, after 100+ laps, is as close as it gets to real, but you really need those laps to compensate for the lack of real world feel... But with AC 1.0 (days from now) and pcars on the horizon.

I abandoned console for now to avoid buying a new wheel... I have 2 csr e and one is sealed in a box still. I use a human racing GT chassis I won at a codemasters PR event (stupidly expensive to buy) ... But I have 2 playseats in the rafters...

And I too have a completely separate office in a guest house behind my house so the volume is always up! One room is console and trophy room, the other is PC triple screen and business. I'll see how fanatics new v2 and console comparable wheel rims work out before calling Thomas, but I refuse to buy a non cross platform wheel... I'm becoming a stodgy old fart!

I'll be sure to accept in iRacing tonight, send me a FR on steam too. It's lord snowden (I think!) but I'm yet to get a headset for PC. Still a bit of a Gerry rig PC setup but it gets the job done for now!

Does 2old2play have a legue in iracing? And do you still gain and loose ratings in a legue event?

I don't believe there is a league in iRacing...but I could be mistaken.  I've been running around in there a bit lately, I'll try to remember to shoot you a FR.

But no, there is no iRating in league events, as they are not "official" races.

Usually the best course of action is you're trying to build up your SR is to start from the pits, and just let guys go that catch you.  I know, it's kinda the exact opposite of racing, but unfortunately that's the way the system works.  I had to run a couple events like that to try to boost my SR back up after getting DQed from a race because morons kept running into me.  Ended up taking a -.9 shot to my SR, and was threatening to drop my license back down to a B.  angry

If you hover over your "Friends Online", it will give you the option of spectating/spotting if you have the required content.  I've used it to watch Oldrustybelly in a Mustang race quite a while back.

I'll try to remember to let you know if the league I'm in starts running iRacing events again.  There has been mumblings about running a couple iR races a month again...but we'll see.

Would be good to get something going here again...But to be honest everyone is using different sims, trying to settle on one has prooved....difficult. Even when we have deciding what mod to run has also prooved problomatic. I would love to do some exibition races in rF2, I could get a friend I think to host a server, but we don't all have it.

But on topic, welcome to the world of PC racing and this little rather quiet corner of it. Triple screen user myself, and I have a rather Frankenstein set up with all kinds of odds and sods holding up my monitors, it works and one of these days I will get around to making something a little more swish...A few Titan Blacks? Nice smiley

I'd try to show up for something in rF2.

I still need to sweep and re-install rF1 on my laptop "server".

I just DL the rf2 demo, nice sim... Though it's lacking any real "game" from what I've read. I'm most interested in the spec Miata NA mod... But I pulled short of buying it just yet.

It has no offline championship at the moment, down the line one will probably be added, to be fair it sets it's stall out as a race sim, and as such you can race in a range of cars on a range of tracks, for my money it does that better than any of the competition, but that is just me. smiley

Chris if I could get enough people interested I would see what I could do, I have been racing on this guys server for some time and it works fine even for US folk. But I think rF2 users here are in a minority.

Keep me in the loop if you're running something on the weekends that are open to newbies (I know you're running w/ the one closed league).  rF2 is slowly starting to pick up at GBR, especially now w/ the V8 series moving to rF2.  More guys have it now.

Another one that is picking up some steam is GSC (Game Stock Car).  It's been getting a lot of praise from some of the guys I race w/ in other leagues.

For sure mate, if I can get more than the one response here, I'll post over at GBR as well. I would like 2O2R to get something off the ground again.

Sorry I've been Mia for the strangest reason... As I was downloading and playing lots of racing games I somehow ended up with euro truck sim 2 and I'm totally addicted... Seriously... Makes me wish their was race team and shop management... But the sim is fun, add mods and it's rather amazing... Perhaps AC's update will jolt me out of it.

I also have to agree, the PC is a bit lonely... Perhaps due to all the diversity of games, I went over to race department, a few assholes over there... So yeah, we might want to put together some more sold comunity, I've been away from pc for so long... Lots of elitism.

In general, I've found public communities to suck.  I don't care if it's PC, xBox or PS based.  Way too much of "My shit is better than your shit."  Everyone is entitled to feel that thier choice fits thier needs best...as they should.  But a few people always feel the need to take thier opinions as gospel and shove it down the throats of everyone else until they either agree and jump on the band wagon, or are called an idiot and repeatedly beat down.  Honestly, if it wasn't for the inital group of us that formed GoneBrokeRacing (all of us came from 2O4F), I would probably still be running predominently xBox/PS3 w/ the 2O4F group.  The technical advantages of a PC based sim (when everything is working as it should) over the console based offerings don't amount to squat if you can't find people to enjoy running with.

And I agree Knight.  Hopefully people will become a bit more active as summer winds down to a close.

Ha ha yeah I have spent many lost hours in Euro Truck. Public racing...sucks more often than not in my experience and is why I am only racing in private leagues. I'll lay the gound work with my mate anyway. I'm sure he would be happy to host a race for us and some of my fellow testers might well drop by. He has been wanting to test his Linux server with more than a few drivers so maybe we can kill two birds with one stone.

So I just bought 3 27" new for 600 bucks... Sure they are only 1080p but higher res over works the card when each screen is rendered. 4ms response too and only a .5 bezel each... I don't even notice in games

They are benq very good brand and easily ordered on Amazon. GW2760HS
