The NPD Group is at it again recently making public the September 06 Xbox360 sales results. Here's how the Xbox360 did last month.
Game sales and attachment rate remain at a record high for console at this stage in its lifecycle. Xbox 360 owners are enjoying an amazing 5.1 games per console. I'm kind of surprised at this number, I would have thought the booming game rental business would have taken some of this away. But I guess gamers still want to own their games.
Xbox 360 accessory attach rate also remains high which is good news for retailers. Consoles and new games make the retailer a couple dollars in profit but the profit on accessories is much higher, around 30%. New Xbox 360 owners have purchased 2.9 accessories which is another record for attachment rate on a console 10 months into it's lifecycle. Then again, what other console has had as many gadgets as the Xbox 360?
One last bit of great news is that the Xbox 360 enjoyed three of the top ten selling titles for consoles. Saints Row took the #2 spot which is not surprising considering how popular Grand Theft Auto is and this is a total clone. Madden '07 took the #4 spot (are you kidding me?) and Lego Star Wars II took the #8 spot. I really want to see these results in December after the release of Call of Duty, Gears of War and Rainbow 6 shoot-out on the stats meter.
All in all Xbox 360 consoles, games and accessory sales remain strong heading into the holiday season.
