Neverwinter Nights 2 - She's GOLD!

RPG gamers on the PC rejoice - Neverwinter Nights 2 goes gold. The product is on target to hit the stores, nationwide, October 31st in North America and November 3rd in Europe.

The next true Dungeons & Dragons RPG is arriving soon. The fans of Neverwinter Nights (NWN) will fall in love quickly with engine re-design. The graphics, from the screenshots and videos, look great and the game seems to hold true to the original game design.

The NWN franchise has a few fans, selling two million copies worldwide and has been translated into 10 languages (for an RPG, this is a great deal of work). Neverwinter has the largest fanbase and active community forums in all of gaming and will grow as the next release hits the market.

What makes this little RPG so popular and widespread? The ability for fans to build their own dungeons and full modifications using tools supported by the developer. The script system is top-notch, the engine is useable on standard PC's (not powerhouse mainframes) and the libraries of add-ons is extensive. NWN2 should be no exception.

Atari has been in the news lately for posting bad revenue numbers and selling off a few game franchise companies. They stuck it out with the Obsidian development group (the first release was done by BioWare) because they know its going to be a big hit with PC gamers.

The product can be pre-ordered on many retail websites and should run you USD $49.99. Of course the strategy guide can be purchased for $19.99 (it's an RPG - you may want to consider it.) Ebgames also shows a "World Builders Guide" for this game - important for those that want to create their own worlds.

The product description seems to focus highly on a single-player experience, but the first release contained a huge community run multi-player world experience. Hopefully, Atari has learned from the community and will supply awesome multiplayer functionality in this release (or we can hope).
