Gamer Score Boosting

Copying game saves to boost your gamerscore may end soon according to a personal blog of a Microsoft employee.

In a recent post Andre Vrignaud (known by his GamerTag Ozymandias) talked about purchasing GamerScore points, the short version of his thoughts is that in the end it won’t hurt anybody and there will be so many possible points out there that people won’t care enough to try to “boost” to a high level. Currently he works for Microsoft managing the overall gaming platform strategy for Xbox and Windows.

However, the idea that you can "cheat" games and use games saved by others to boost your score was asked about by commenter’s. Here is his reply:

"I was a bit surprised you failed to mention cheating in your whole article. At the present time, the achievements system is losing its value because of cheaters who use other game saves to get all the achievements on a game without even playing it.
hope this problem get fixed before it devalues the system beyond repair...."

To which Ozymandias replied "Don't worry. One of the nice things about a managed service is that you can address this sort of thing. Can't share details, but it's not being ignored. Soon..."

While he does not say what or when, it is clear that Microsoft doesn’t like the trend of gamers artificially inflating their scores, and plans to take action.

Personally, I am glad they aren’t ignoring it, but I don’t care how people get their GamerScore. It’s a personal victory for myself when I complete all of a game's achievements, and nice to compare what I have played to what others have, but how you get the score is up to you. What may be more important is that Microsoft will address cheating issues even when you only cheat yourself.
