Codemasters: Fall of Liberty

In 1931, Winston Churchill was hit by a taxi in New York. In the real world, he survived, and went on to rally the British people to fight the Nazi threat. But what if he hadn’t?

That's the premise behind Codemaster's next World War II First-Person-Shooter (FPS) game currently titled Fall of Liberty. Not too unlike the Call of Duty franchise, however, they've take a new twist: What if WWII didn't have the same outcome as it did? Imagine, if you will, the Third Reich defeating the allies...

Taking a page from Wolfenstein, Codemasters is doing a non-realistic scenario based on the WWII setting. Why? Probably because everybody and their grandmother has to have a WWII tactical FPS in today's market.

Codemasters website says this about the game:
"It’s from this premise that Fall Of Liberty takes it’s theme - without Churchill’s leadership, Europe and the United Kingdom have fallen to Hitler’s forces. By 1951, using crushing technical superiority, the United States is invaded and defeated by the Third Reich.

With this setting, Fall Of Liberty will be an FPS experience like no other; a game that’s both a World War 2 FPS and something different. Fighting not as a soldier, but a resistance fighter in a United States of America that’s under the rule of a foreign power.

Exclusive to next-generation platforms and PC, Fall Of Liberty breathes new life into the FPS genre."
Although I'm sure the concept is great, I have a feeling that Codemasters will have a hard time selling this into a certain European country. Playing with the Nazi regime in a story tends to put a large group of people on the defensive with good reason.

Would I buy it? Personally, I love WWII specific game content and environments - but that is because I'm a huge fan of historical wars. For those that are sick and tired of the WWII scene perhaps this won't be the game for you, or perhaps with the "twist" on the historical aspect of the game it will be refreshing for those that are bored with it.

The date for the game, thus far, is Q4 of 2007. I'm sure we'll see more content as the game moves from concepts and design to final product.
